= Imphal’s west district has the highest literacy rate in Manipur.
Q2. Answer the following questions in about 40 words each:-
a) Why is man regarded as a great resource ?
= Man is an excellent resource because he himself is an inexhaustible source of skill and energy. With his knowledge and strength he can create many resources. Also, they can do a variety of work in fields like factory, agriculture, service provider etc. These human resources vary in their gender, age and literacy rate which determines their working capabilities.
b) Why does population change?
= Population change happens due to various reasons one being excuses of birth over death. Upon comparing the population of a country from one year to another, it can be noticed that the population of a country varies from time to time. For example – India has seen a massive population change between 1961-2001, this indicates that the healthcare and nutrition level has increased, leading to lesser deaths.
c) Explain three important geographical factors which influence the distribution of population.
= Distribution of population refers to the way people are spread over the surface of Earth, i.e., how densely or sparsely population is in a region. There are some geographical factors affecting it, such as:-
I) Climate – People usually avoid areas that have extreme climatic conditions. Like desserts, polar regions.
II) Land forms – Plains are more preferred rather than mountains, because of ease of farming, transportation etc. Like ganga plains are densely populated than Himalaya region.
III) Soil – Fertile soil supports huge population, it means more productivity. Thus, plains of ganga have dense population.
d) Why do hill districts of Manipur have low density of population? Give three points.
= The hill districts of Manipur have lower density of population compared to the other districts because of the following reasons:-
I) Firstly, it is a hill region and there is not as much scope as there would be in plain region, so it has scare population.
II) Lack of infrastructural development is yet another problem in these hill districts.
III) The transportation facilities, fertility of soil and climate are some other reasons.
