a) What is a resource?
Resource can be termed as any material that has the potential to satisfy human needs.
b) Classify the natural resources on the basis of origin.
On the basis of origin, resource can be classified into two types- Biotic resources and abiotic resources.
c) What are the three categories of resources?
The three categories of resources, namely are, Natural resources, human made resources and human resources.
Q2. Answer the questions in about 30 words each:-
a) What are natural resources?
The materials obtained from nature that are put to use for human benefits are known as natural resources. For example- water, soil, air etc. Types of natural resources are:-
i) On the basis of stage of development resources can be classified into: Potential and Actual resources
ii) On the basis of stock: Renewable and Non- renewable resources.
iii) On the basis of origin: Biotic and Abiotic resources.
iv) On the basis of distribution: Ubiquitous and Localised resources.
b) What is renewable resource?
Renewable resources are resources that replenish or get renewed fast and naturally. Some of these resources are available at all times and in abundance, their supply is continuous and unlimited. Solar energy and wind energy are examples of these type of resources. However, there are some Renewable resources that take time to replenish after use, such as crops, water, forests etc.
c) What do you mean by Human resources?
Human Resources refers to people that are and create resources for the society. The knowledge and wisdom that humans have help them add value to a resource. Thus, skilled and educated citizens are the greatest resources for a nation. They have inexhaustible skills and strength. Education and health play a crucial role in making human resources. Human resources is also called man power.
d) What is Sustainable development?
Sustainable development refers to the development that fulfils the needs of the present generation without comprising the needs of the future generations. In short, using resources judiciously and carefully. Sustainable development is important for the following reasons:-
i) Ensure a sustained use of renewable resources
ii) For conserving the biodiversity
iii) For minimal harm to the natural balance in environment.
