- Explain the concepts.
(1) Tribal movement
Ans) Forest is the prime habitat of tribal people. Their lives are totally dependent on forest. So it’s a punishment for them if someone snatches away their birth right from them. Before independence British Government deprived them from their livelihood from forest resources. On demand to get back their right over forest they started a grand movement, called Tribal movement. Few uprising Tribal group from different parts of India were-Kolam from Chota Nagpur, Gond from Orissa, Koli, Bhilla and Ramoshi from Maharashtra, Santhal and Munda from Bihar.Their basic demand was to get the permission of collecting products of forests and the right to cultivate on forest land.
(2) Labour movement
Ans) Emerging industrialisation was the prime cause of Labour Movement. Before independence labour movement went to its pick point. All India Trade Union Congress, established in 1920, was the first organisation for resolving the issues of workers. The Movement was started in 1899, when the railway workers went on strike for their demands. The year 1960 and 1970 also witnessed several agitations among the labours. But after 1980s the effect of Globalisation has disintegrated the labour movement in some extent.

(1) Explain the activities/role/functions of environmental movement.
Ans) Now a days environmental degradation is one of the severe problems of the World. Not only at the international level several awareness movements have taken place, but also in India many movements are working on different aspects of environment. Protection of bio-diversity, protecting different sources of water, protection of forests,
Creating green belt, looking after of the pollution of rivers, awareness of the usage of chemicals and their ill effects etc. are the different activities of Environmental movement started by Indian Government.
(2) Explain the nature of farmers movement in India.
Ans) Farmers movement of India was started against the anti-agriculture policies of the British colonial government.Though increasing agricultural production and achieving self-sufficiencyin food grains are the fruitful results of Green Revolution, they did not benefit the poor farmers.After the Green Revolution, the farmers’ movement became more active and effective. Division among the farmers on the basis of financial status, inappropriate price for agricultural products, increasing debts etc. are some important causes behind farmers’ movement. Agriculture to be treated as an industry, implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission and national policy for agriculture are some of the demands of the farmers movement. Thoughts of Mahatma Phule, Justice Ranade and Mahatma Gandhi inspired this movement and Shetkari Sanghatana, Bharatiya Kisan Union, All India Kisan Sabha are some of the important farmers organisations in India.
(3) For which reforms were the women’s movement in the pre-independence period fighting?
Ans) In the pre-independence period women’s movements were started to eliminate injustice against women, end up their exploitation, help them to lead a respectful life
And to make them participate actively in social life by some progressive men in
India. These reformists started movement against the custom of Sati and child
Marriages. They raised their voice for women Education, right to vote to women, widow remarriage etc. Ishwar ChandraVidyasagar, Raja Rammohan Roy, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Savitribai Phule, Maharshee Dhondo Keshav Karve, Pandita Ramabai, Ramabai Ranade were some famous personality who devoted their whole life span for the reformation of the society.In the latter period, women also developed the awarenessof injustice against their own selves and participated in the movements against corruption, caste discrimination and religious extremism. Now a days equal education for women and a status and prestige as human beings for women are the main demand of women movement.
