(1) Left-extremism
Ans)Left-extremism or Naxalismis one of the major challenges against Indian democracy. Left extremists were called Naxals. It was a movement started to remove injustice against aggressive landless farmers and tribal people. By attacking the police forces and using other tactics the Naxalistshas reduced the problems of farmers and tribal people without using any violent measures to oppose the government policies.
(2) Corruption
Ans) Another big challenge is the corruption for Indian democratic system. It is very high in the public sector. Delay in governmental work, poor public services and facilities and different financial blunders are the results of corruption in the entire Governmental system which has reduced Government’s working capacityat the political and administrative levels. It has also increased People’s distrust and dissatisfaction about the entire governmental system.

(1) Which factors are required for the success of democracy in India?
Ans) Factors required for the success of democracy in India are-
- Everyone’s opinion should be considered important in democratic government. Though majority opinion has a lot of importance in Democracy, opinions of minorities should also be included in the process of decision- making. Moreover all religious, linguistic, ethnic and caste groups should get equal opportunity to participate in the decision-making process.
- Judiciary Department should be more effective. To keep politics out of criminalisation Government should take important steps.Judiciary department should adopted measures like strict punishmentto criminals and prohibit criminals from participating in political process.
- It is the duty of all the citizens as well as government to take all the important measures and conscious effort to make the democracy successful. From the Government’s perspective SarvaShikshaAbhiyan, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Gram Samruddhi Yojana, Self-help Groups, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and such other projects are undertaken. To increase political participation of women, 50% seats are kept reserved in local self-governing institutions. Interaction with those who are not in power,the values of equality, liberty, social justice, secularism should be respected and implemented even in our personal life to make it successful.
- Participation of people at all levels is truly needed to make the democratic government successful.
(2) What are the effects of criminalisation of politics?
Ans) Criminalisation in politics is another serious problem in democratic government. To make the democracy successful politics should be separated from Criminalisation. People having a criminal background, facing criminal allegations and allegations of corruption should not get the candidature in political parties. Increased role of money and muscle power in politics should be reduced, which is a cause of violation during election.
(3) What efforts are undertaken to bring transparency in political process?
Ans) To bring transparency in political process –
- Important steps to prevent Religious conflict and the resultant terrorism should be taken to bring social stability and People’s participation in democratic process.
- Problems like Naxalite movement should be under controlled as because this movement has taken violent measures attacked the police forces to oppose the government policies.
- The problems like unemployment, unequal distribution of resources, increasing gap between rich and poor, caste based issues, need to be resolved.
- Public sector, political process should be corruption free as it can reduce the working capacity of the Government. Again due to corruption people also develop distrust and dissatisfaction about the entire governmental system.
