The inmates of the farm were given both moral and character-building lessons through various chores. According to Gandhiji, trueeducation is imparted by the family and the Tolstoy Farm according to him was the family for the inmates. There were no servants on the farm and the inmates performed all the chores like cooking, gardening, shoe making, carpentry. Mr. Kallenbach and Sjt. Pragji Desai gave the students literary training to the students on the farm. The children were happy in performing all the activities and took pleasure in the assignments they used to do. The formal education was not favoured by Gandhiji and he believed that a child’s best teacher was the family and considered the Tolstoy Farm as the family of the inmates. Ans. The practice of the farm of not keeping any servants and performing all the activities on their own by the inmate according to me is a very unique way of teaching self -dependence, dignity of labour. In this manner every person can learn to do all work and they can be taught that no work is derogatory and should be respected in every way. This practice can also make people active and healthy as they perform physical exercises also.
b.) Haritha Keralam, Organic Farming, Biodiversity Park and Swatch Bharath Drive are some of the programs in schools. They require the active participation of all students. They also include work that some people may hesitate to do.
