Ans. “River Sarayu was the pride of Malgudi.” Was said by R.K. Narayan as the sand banks were the evening resort of all the people of the town. The municipal residents took the distinguished visitor to the top of the Town Hall and proudly showed them the Sarayu in moonlight which glistened like a river belt across the North.
2.) Why did the teacher punish Swaminathan? What was the punishment? How did he feel it?
Ans. The teacher punished Swaminathan because he was lacking concentration in the class. The punishment was to stand up on the bench. He was very happy to see the whole class and elated that he was asked to stand on the bench and not being beaten by a cane.
3.) Why did Mani think that Rajam was his rival?
Ans. Mani thought of Rajam was his rival because of Rajam’s casual attitude towards him and Mani was the famous boy in the class and everyone in the class gave him importance but Rajam did not care much about it. When Mani kicked Rajam kicked, when Mani hit him, Rajam returned equally. Moreover, Rajam became very popular in the class as he was properly dressed, good in studies and spoke fluently in English.

He was also punished by the teacher as he was passing notes between them and was not attentive in the class Mani was his old friend and saviour but he admired Rajam and longed for his friendship. Swaminathan was also very afraid of both the boys. Thus, whenthe rivalry ended and Rajam and Mani became friends he felt at peace with the situation.

I am noticing that he has become friendly with two boys in particular, Mani and Rajam. Swaminathan prefers to sit at the last bench between these two boys and is always talking with them or exchanging some kinds of notes amongst them. Rajam is new in our class and is a very good student but Mani is an average student and a big bully of the class. We have number of times scolded Mani and asked him to behave correctly but he has not yet changed his behaviour.
Nowadays, Swaminathan does not come prepared also to the class, he stammers when he is asked questions. Most of the days his home works are not complete. All teachers have started to complain against him. If he continues to perform like this then his grades are going to be down or he may fail in his final examination.

The amazing moment in the western horizon is when the sun sets and the horizon becomes a palette of yellow, orange and red colours. It seems like the tress are drenched in golden glow and the beautiful landscape is the canvas of the God on which the Almighty is splashing exquisite colours. The reflection of the landscape falls on the water making it a heavenly sight. The birds flying past towards their home singing lullaby, all other animals also retiring to their homes and the sun fades back into a long deep sleep. The sunset is a spell bounding sight from the mother to bring delight and happiness in the hearts of her children each day with new hope and wishes as bright and beautiful as the sunset.
