In this scenario, the fishermen of Kerala became the beacon of hope. Around 952 fishing boats and more than 4500 fishermen from coastal areas of Kerala rescued almost 65,000 people. The fishermen went from the coastal areas to the interior areas of the state and brought the stranded people to safety. Their knowledge to counter the waves, currents and their well-built physiques were boon in the rescue mission. The fishermen were selfless in their service to humanity.

She is the sole survivor of the Lansa flight 508 crash that killed 92 passengers, including her mother, and all the crew members. She somehow managed to drop two miles through the air and survived the dangerous terrains of the Amazon Forest, all alone. Though shaken, she could recollect falling with the seat belt digging into her stomach after a thunderstorm ripped apart the plane. Yesterday, three hunters discovered and rescued Koepcke after 11 days of her ordeal in the rain forest. One of the hunters said, “We heard about the crash, but never expected to see a survivor. It was unbelievable.” Necessary medication was given and then she was transported to the US mission base at Pucallpa for further treatment. The doctor who looks after her said, “The sheer grit and determination she showed reaffirms the invincibility of the human spirit.”

The incessant rainfall along with the overflowing rivers and lakes are proving threat to the lives of the people.The people are in poor condition without food, clean drinking water, communication is completely cut, there is no electricity and many houses are under the water. The Army and the other rescue operators are working continuously to rescue stranded people but as they do not have the knowledge of the terrain, the rescue operation has become very difficult and slow.
On 17thAugust, around the government decided to call upon around 132 fishermen who were well acquainted with the area.Around 952 fishing boats and more than 4500 fishermen from coastal areas of Kerala rescued almost 65,000 people. The fishermen moved from the coastal areas to the interior areas of the state and brought the stranded people to safety. Their knowledge to counter the waves, currents and their well-built physiques were boon in the rescue mission. They not only risked their lives but also offered their moneyto provide basic amenities to the flood victims. The chief Minister, Mr. Pinarayi Vijayanoffered his gratitude towards the fishermen for their selfless service and called them as the real-life heroes of the state.
