- Vijayanagara empire increased revenue for his kingdom by putting Land tax, Professional tax, revenue tax, road tax, market tax, commercial tax, import and export taxes and tributes from the vassals
- Agriculture was the backbone of the economy. People grew different kinds of crops throughout the year.
- The Vijayanagar kings constructed wells, tanks and canals to encourage irrigation and agriculture.

Answer:-
- The emperors were known as great patrons of architecture.Tye king constructed temples, palaces, forts, towers, huge halls (mahamantapa), public buildings, tanks, bunds, canals and dams.
- The unique feature of their architecture was the construction of huge auditorium and marriage halls.
- The most important temple constructed in the beginning of the Vijayanagar dynastic rule was Vidyashankara temple at Shringeri. The structure of this temple is unique in India
- The VijayaVitthala temple of Hampi is known for its magnificent architectural beauty.

- There were 3 levels of administration namely Central, Provincial and Village. Among these, there was revenue, judicial and military administration too
- The chief of the central administration was the Sultan. Top officials, commandants, ulemas and amins, friends and relatives of the Sultan, attended the meeting.
- then existing 4 provinces converted into 8 units and these provinces were divided into 15Sarakars. Administrator of each of these Sarakarswas the subedar
- Sarakars were divided into paraganas. Kotwal, Deshmukh and Desai were the administrators of the paraganas.
- The final unit of administration was the village having Patel, Kulkarni and guards as staff. The village units were independent units.
Taxation system during the rule of the Bahamani sultans
- Land tax was the main source of income for the kingdom.1/3 to ½ of the agricultural production was collected as land tax
- There were 50 kinds of taxes including house, mines, tobacco, grasslands, trade and employment. The money earned by taxation was used for maintaining palaces, wars and bodyguards, construction and maintenance of forts.

- The educational policy of the AdilShahis was to propogate Islamic culture. There were schools known as maktabs. They were under the control of mosques.
- The madrasas(college) were centers of higher education. This college was 242ft. length, 222 ft. width and 56 ft height three-storied magnificent building constructed in the Deccan style. It had a library with around 3000 manuscripts.
- The Sultans developed Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The Jamia mosque built by Ali Adil Shah I is a prominent monument
- Ibrahim Roza, GolGumbaz, Gagan Mahal and AsarMahals are the important monuments of this time
- The GolGumbaz at Vijayapura is one of the greatest structures in the world

The biggest fool in the Kingdom
The king Krishnadevaraya had best collection of horses in the kingdom. One day a trader got to know king love horses and he had a best breed of horse in the Arabia with him so he invited king to see the horse and told him that he can buy the horse. Trader told king ,he had two more same horses , and need to go back to bring them from Arabia. King loved the horse so much that he immediately buy the horse and also gave advance payment of 5000 gold coins for other two horses to trader.
Trader said he would be back in 2 days with other two horses but two days passed, two weeks passed, there was no news of trader. One evening king went to garden to relax and ease his mind where he saw Tenali Raman sitting in the garden and writing down something. The king was curious to know what Tenali Raman is writing so he went to Tenali and asked what he was doing. Tenali Raman with hesitation told that he is writing the list of names of the biggest fool in Vijayanagara kingdom and shows him the paper.
With the furious look king asked Tenali Raman why king’s name was on the top of the list. Tenali make me remind of horse story and said it was foolishness to believe a stranger and give him advance payment. Why would trader come back with horses after receiving 5000 gold coins.
King said what if trader comes with two horse? Tenali replied to king , king’s name will be replaced by trader’s name in the list.
