Holika Dahan
The Bhagavat purana claims that Hiranyakashipu was king who, in order to get what he wanted, did the necessary tapas (penance) before brahma bestowed a boon.
The boon gave Hiranyakashipu five special powers; he could not be killed by man or beast ; he could not be killed at any hour of the day or night; he could not be killed by astra (launched weapons); he could not be killed by Lan, sea, or air .He was arrogant because he thought he was invincible because his wish had come true. He demanded that his entire empire worship him alone since he was so narcissistic. Whoever violated his commands Was slain as punishment. On the other hand, his son Prahalad disagreed with him and refused to revere Him as a god. he kept on praising and having faith in lord Vishnu. In his fury, Hiranyakashipu made many attempts to murder his son Prahalad, but lord Vishnu always intervened and protected him. Finally, he turned his sister holika for help.
Holika had received a blessing that made her fireproof, but because the gift only functioned if she entered the fire by herself, she was killing by the flames.
