The story behind this
This festivals legend is fascinating. On this day, after killing the demon narkasur and applying a tilak of the monsters blood to his forehead, shri Krishna left for home at dawn. Nanda, his father, offered him a blessed bath. the women expressed their happiness by around Krishna’s face with candles.since then, it is thought that whoever bathes on this auspicious day will avoid suffering in hell. Lamps can also dispel tamsik vibes on this day.
According to a different interpretation of the kali Chaudas/Narak Chaturdashi legend, goddess kali killed the formidable and evil asura raktabija on this day and drank his blood. The demon raktabija battled goddess Parvati and goddess kali alongside shumbha and nishumbha. if a drop of raktabija’s blood fell to the ground it would make a clone or copy of him as a blessing. during the assault, goddess kali noticed this and assumed her intimidating, fearsome form. All raktabija’s copies were swallowed by goddess kali, who also slew the original raktabija and drank his blood. On this kali chaudas day, it is stated that this glorious episode took place.
The day is also commonly observed as roop chaudas or choti Diwali.
Why roop chaudas
On this day, kali chaudas is also observed some people hold the view that the goddess kali killed narkasur. People there pray to Maa Kali in the hopes that she will remove evil from their lives and bring true light, and they offer her gifts such as oil, flowers sweets, camphor, agarbatti,diyas,coconut and aarti.
On dhanteras day some people worship yama/yamraj/yamdev on dhantrayodashi and nanarak Chaturdashi.Death’s deity is yamraj. one is set free from premature or abrupt death and can avoid damnation by worshipping him on this day (narak). 13 wheat flour oil lamps are lit outside the house as part of the puja ceremonies, with the flame facing south.
Rituals of Narak Chaturdashi
The most important narak Chaturdashi rite that individuals rise early in the morning before earlier than moonrise or at dawn , use ubtan (a blend of wheat, flour turmeric, sesame oil, and flowers apply (powder) on their bodies before taking holy bath.

It is believed that offering meal to brahman on narak Chaturdashi means paying gratitude to God who has appeared for religious mission through the medium of the brahman.
