The 1st to 5th Para:
The 1st to 5th Para “Long, Long ago ……………… What does he have for dinner” introduces Golu & his questions. Long long ago elephant’s did not have long trunk, they had a bulgy nose, as big as a boot. They could not pick or carry things with it. There was Golu, a baby elephant who was fall with questions. He had questions for Ostrich, giraffe, hippopotamus etc. The animals had no answer to his questions & regarded Golu a naughty baby. One fine day Golu met the Mynah bird in the middle of a bush & questioned her about what the crocodiles have for dinner. The bird asked Golu to go to the banks of the great grassy Limpoo River & find out Golu went home & took hundred of Sugar canes, 50 dozens of bananas & 25 melons & bid good bye to his family & started his journey to the great Limpoo to find out the answer to his question. On the way he met a python & asked him if he had ever seen a crocodile, what did he look like & what could he have for dinner.
The 6th to 12th Para:
The 6th to 12th Para “The python uncoiled himself …………….. But it was free at last” describe the meeting between Golu & the crocodile. The python uncoiled himself from the branch of a tree & Golu helped him to coil again politely & went away. After a few days he finally reached the Limpoo River. On the bank he noticed a long log of wood. It was the crocodile who winked at Golu. Golu asked him has he ever seen a crocodile. The crocodile lifted his tail & called Golu near. He shed some crocodile tears & admitted he was the crocodile Golu was afraid & asked the” what did he for dinner. The crocodile called him near & told that he would whisper the answer in Golu’s ears. Golu put his head down close to the crocodile’s snout & the naughty crocodile grabbed his nose & laughed & said that he had a baby crocodile for dinner today. Golu screamed & asked the crocodile to let him go. The python was following Golu & came to help. He asked Golu to pull hard. Golu kept pulling & the crocodile also kept pulling. The python finally coiled himself & wrapped round Golu’s stomach & pulled harder. The nose kept stretching long & long at each pull. The nose was at last 5 feet long, & the crocodile left it & went back in the water.
The 13th to 16th Para:
The 13th to 16th Para end the story with the beautiful advantages of the long nose, “Golu sat down ………….. Go back to my family”. Golu wrapped his nose in a banana leaf & kept waiting for 2 days for his nose to cool & shrink. His nose did cool but did not shrink. At the end of the 2nd day, a fly came & stung Golu on his shoulder. Golu with his long trunk lifted the fly & hit it on the ground. To this the pointed told that this is the first advantage of a long nose. The python asked Golu to eat now Golu plucked some grass with his trunk & put it in his mouth. That was the 2nd advantage, hissed the python, he finally told Golu that it was very hot, Golu scooped up some mud from the ground & slapped on his head. That was the 3rd advantage which he could not do with his short nose. Golu realised the advantage of the big trunk & thanked Mr. Python & went back home.
