Full form of PPP
- Full form of PPP is Point to Point Protocol.
PPP stands for Point-to-Point Protocol. This protocol is used for the communication between two computers endpoints using serial interface. The communication in this happens directly between two nodes. There is no need of network interface such as routers or cables etc. In this main head office provides internet to ISPs through point-to-point protocol in which each one has separate line to transfer internet. It is more advanced and developed as compared to SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol).
It can transfer more data and is best suitable for transmitting data on the internet. It was developed by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). Main reason to develop this was to create data link protocol for ppp. It is the most used protocol.
What are the examples of PPP?
- When the computers are connected through a telephone line than Point to Point Protocol is used in this.
- The ISPs which provide connection to computers with the help of telephone lines are used for better response.
What are the properties of PPP?
- The exchange of frames between nodes format is defined by PPP.
- It is designed in a way that it can support various protocols at the same time.
- Packets can be transferred which are produced by various network protocols.
- Authentication of two computers is defined by point to point protocol.
- The data that is transferred in PPP is done in the form of packet which encapsulates the frame and that’s why it is also considered as a part of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)/IP (Internet Protocol). PPP has a dedicated line for communication whereas in TCP the data transmits in the form of packets.
