- The main purpose of this was to store and retrieve files that are stored in the Hard Disk.
- This was the system which was used to read and write data from the system.
- This file system replaced windows 95 FAT (File allocation table) and High-Performance File system (HPFS) both.
- This provides better performance, security than any other file systems and can be used to store large files as it can handle very big data storage.
What are the features of NTFS?
- File compression is already installed so it automatically reduces the fragmentation of the files. The space that allocates in between can be compressed which provides efficient size.
- The names of files and format are approved by Unicode which is standard and can be used anywhere.
- It provides data security so there is no data loss while copying data.
- It can support very large data files.
How does NTFS Work?
Whenever you format a hard disk, it gets divided into partitions of the total hard disk and inside each partition all the files that are stored are getting tracked by the operating system. And these files are stored in the hard disk in form of clusters which is of predefined size. In a 4gb hard drive the size of a cluster can be around 2kb.
