Food chain can be defined as arrangement of different trophic level of one ecosystem so that one organism can eat another, and form a chain called as food chain. It is a diagrammatic representation. It is the inter-relation in between eating and being eaten called as food chain.
Every food chain can be divided into 5 steps:
A. Producers: They are also called as autotroph level. These living organisms can produce their own food material. These include BGA, green alga and green plants. Plants use sunlight for the purpose of photosynthesis.
B. Herbivore:They are called as primary trophic level or primary consumers. These living organisms feed on plant materials are called herbivores.
C. Carnivores: They are called as secondary trophic level. These organisms feed on herbivores. They are responsible for maintaining biodiversity of herbivores.
D. Omnivores:They are called as tertiary trophic level. Their position is not fix in food chain, but the living organisms can eat both plant and animal material. For example: Human.
E. Decomposers: They depend on dead organic matter.
As depicted in diagram the first food chain starts with trees or plants, these plants are eaten by herbivores such as deer, and deer is intake by carnivore called as lion.
The second food chain starts with part of plant that is flower, butterfly eats flower that is herbivore, in turn butterfly is eaten by frog which is carnivores, snake eats frog and eagle eats snake. All three are carnivores.
The third food chain again start with flower which is eatern by small fishes, small fishes eaten by large fishes. Birds eats large fish.
These are some examples of food chain.
Question and answers:
1.) What is food chain?
Answer: Food chain can be defined as arrangement of different trophic level of one ecosystem so that one organism can eat another, and form a chain called as food chain. It is a diagrammatic representation. It is the inter-relation in between eating and being eaten called as food chain.
2.) What are primary trophic level?
Answer: They are also called as autotroph level. These living organisms can produce their own food material. These include BGA, green alga and green plants. Plants use sunlight for the purpose of photosynthesis.
3.) Give any example of food chain.
Answer: food chain starts with trees or plants, these plants are eaten by herbivores such as deer, and deer is intake by carnivore called as lion.
4.) What are omnivores?
Answer: They are called as tertiary trophic level. Their position is not fix in food chain, but the living organisms can eat both plant and animal material. For example: Human.
