Unemployment and the New Education Policy Essay: Over the past few years, employability has remained a top challenge for employers as well as job seekers. To address this the government of India introduced the New Education Policy as the previous education policy was questioned for the lack of effectiveness. The situation become so grave that the employees found difficulty in searching for job-ready talent and the job seekers failed to find a suitable job for themselves. However, with the introduction of the New Education Policy, the unemployment rate in India is slowing down. The rate of unemployment in 2021 was 5.98 per cent, which is 2.02 per cent down from the previous year and this has been possible since the inception of the New Education Policy of 2020.

The National Education Policy of 2020 was announced by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development which aimed to bring about a change in the Indian education system to meet the employment needs of the 21st century and to wipe off unemployment. This new policy sought to rectify the poor literacy rate in primary schools, reduction in school dropout rates and adopt a multi-disciplinary approach in the higher education system. Thirdly, it acted as the meeting point for skills and education. This acted as a paradigm shift in education as honing the skills and upskilling helped in finding jobs for job seekers. In addition, it also helped in the realisation of the goal of the Skill India Mission. Fourthly, the New Education Policy made education more inclusive by leveraging online pedagogy and learning methodologies for escalating mass enrolment in higher education. Fifthly, the NEP 2020 states that universities among the top universities in the world will be able to set up campuses in India. This will make way for the placements to take place and thus more educated people will be given employment. Most importantly, the NEP 2020 emphasised imparting education in the mother tongue till Grade 5 as it is considered the best way of teaching.

To conclude it can be said that the New Education Policy aimed at making the education system more holistic so that once passing from high school, students do not face difficulty in finding jobs. Since the inception of this education policy, the unemployment rate over the last two years has been reduced.
