How does the appearance of ‘Eagles’ make them ‘Birds of Prey’?
These ‘Birds of Prey’ who are strictly Carnivorous have a strong build. Eagles have tearing, sharp and strong beaks and large pupils with a great focal length that gives them good eyesight without any scattered images due to light.
This sharp beak and Good eye-sight help an eagle spot and catch prey from long distances.
Along with beaks, sharp claws are also functional in grabbing prey like small mammals, birds, Reptiles, frogs, Fish, insects, etc.
Eagles are scavengers, that feed upon the carrions of animals.
Female built is large than male eagles.
Breeding of Eagles-
Breeding season is from February to March.
Eagles reach sexual maturity at 4-5 years of age and most species are monogamous.
Eagles build ‘Eyries’ or ‘nests’ on tall trees and cliffs
Eggs laid are 1-3, and incubation is for 35 days.
Young stays in the nest for 3 months, but there’s competition between hatchlings at the beginning of their birth. Eagle hatchlings try to harm each other, and parents take no part in their feud. But both parents feed and incubate their offspring.
There are 10 species of eagles found in the Indian Subcontinent.
