Difference between Atom and Molecule
Atom |
Molecule |
Atom is the very tiny particle of element or compound. | Molecule is the group of two or more atom held together due to chemical bond. |
Atom is not visible by naked eye also not occur by magnifying microscope. | Molecule is not visible by naked eyes but visible through magnifying microscope. |
It have spherical shape. | It have angular , linear or triangular shape. |
It is highly reactive. | It is comparatively less reactive. |
It contain proton, neutron and electron .
It contain nucleus. |
It contain two or more identical or different element which bonded together. |
It can not exist freely. | It exist in free state. |
Atom is smallest particle of element. | Molecule is the smallest unit of compound. |
Atom participate in chemical reactions without chemical decomposition. | Molecule is less reactive and they not take part in chemical reactions. |
Atom has nuclear bond. | Molecule have covalent bond. |
It involves electrostatic attraction between electron and nucleus. | It share electron with each other to remain bonded. |
Nucleus of an atom is positively charge which surrounded by negatively charge electron. | Electron of molecule interact with one other and this attraction result in chemical bond. |
The proton , electron , neutron have equal masses.
Ex. H , He, O, K etc |
In the chemical bond electrons are exchange between the element this process is called covalent bond.
Ex. HCl, NaCl , O3, CO2, NO2 etc. |
