Common noun refers to the names of all objects, places, things, people etc. in general which we see around us. Common nouns are used for generalising everything in different aspects. Common nouns are used with a determiner in singular forms. Majority of things we see around us come in the group of common nouns except the particular things.
Common nouns are used for referring a class of things, persons, animals, places and any other objects. i) Common nouns can also be used at any place within a sentence just like proper nouns.

ii) Common nouns can be started with capital letters only when these nouns start a sentence or be a part of title.

iii) Common nouns generalize everything to mention in a common way. It never refers specific persons or things.
Ex. boys like to play football in playground.
Students will go to library in their particular time.
iv) Common noun can be both countable and uncountable based on its count ability. Plural form of count nouns are used with plural verbs and uncountable nouns take singular verbs.
Ex. health is wealth for every person.
Iron is an useful metal.
Boxed are filled with unused clothes.
Pencils were bought by parents of the children.
v) To identify common nouns students should focus on the concept generalize and using of small letters in a sentence.
