B.) Answer the following questions:
(i) Why is Salim Ali called the Bird-man of India?
Ans. In India, the world of ‘Birds’ was exposed to us by the great Ornithologist Dr.Salim Ali, his unconditional love for nature and bird and his remarkable contribution to the field of Ornithology led him to be known as the “Birdman of India”.
(ii) What do ‘feathers’of birds tell us ?
Ans. ‘feathers’ of birds tell us that the life of a bird that they lead.
(iii) “Looking at the beak of a bird, it is possible to understand its life cycle”. Explain.
(iv) What influenced Salim Ali to become an ornithology?
Ans. One day child Salim Ali shot a bird which had a yellow streak but salim and his uncle failed to identify the species .Then, Salim was advised to contact with Dr.W.S.Millard, the honorary secretary of the BNHS identified the bird as a yellow throated sparrow and he also showed Salim the Society’s splendid collection of stuffed birds. This single incident influenced Salim Ali to become an Ornithologist.

A.)
1.) A picture of a very strange-looking and beautiful bird is given. Look at the picture very carefully and write a paragraph describing the bird’s features.
Ans – The beak of the bird is small not very long. It’s colour is black. Not very sharp tip. The colour of the bird is almost pink. It has some dark pink and some light pink feathers in it’s body. It’s neck is little tall not very much. It look like a pipe bended like a ‘S’. The height of the bird is almost from 1.2 meter to 1.4 meter.
2.) An ornithologist (person who studies birds) requires certain tools to carry out his observation, Some of these tools are listed. You will have to explain why those tools are necessary for studying birds.
Ans –
a.) Binoculars – it is used watch object in far distance. Which helped to birds in far distance.
b.) Tape-recorder and mike – With the help of it, the person can record the description of the bird and also can record the voice of the bird.
