Animals Vocabulary in English
Here, we have provided all animals names along with groups so that students can identify them and know about them in details. The lists are given below:
1.) Fish
- There are many fishes that are found specifically in the sea.
- Many fishes have died due to accidents in the sea waters such as the oil spills
- Fishes usually feed on other small fishes, aquatic plants and planktons.
- The science of breeding fishes for business purposes is known as pisciculture
- Fishes have gills for breathing
2.) Crocodile
- Crocodiles are reptiles but they can live on land as well as in water.
- These are carnivorous creatures and have very sharp teeth and prey on aquatic animals usually.
- Australia is very famous for having a large number of crocodiles.
- I have seen crocodiles in a small lake surrounded by fences within the local zoo.
- Due to hunting and poaching of crocodiles they have reduced in number
3.) Bear
- Polar bears live in the Arctic Circle region and have very thick fur to bear with the extreme cold
- Brown bears are omnivorous, but usually consume fruits and leaves
- Brown bears and polar bears have become an imminent species their numbers have decreased rapidly
- It is believed that bears have a very long life span which can extend up to 60 years.
- It is a scientific proven fact that most of the different types of bears do not like to move in groups instead they preferred to stay alone
4.) Cat
- Cats and tigers belong to the same family Known as the Felidae.
- In Egyptian civilization cats were often worshipped.
- Cats have a special feature, it is their eyes. they glow in the dark.
- There are different species of cats among which Persian cats are very rare and valuable.
- Cat is a domestic animal and prefers to consume fish and milk.
5.) Chicken
- chicken is a poultry animal and is mostly bred For consumption and for laying eggs
- Chickens are usually white in color and have feathers all over its body
- Even though chickens have wings they cannot fly using it
- A chicken can live a life of up to a maximum of 12 years.
- The female chicken is known as hen, and the male chicken is known as rooster
6.) Horse
- Horses are domestic animals that was used in earlier days as mode of transportation
- Horse riding and polo are sports that involve horses. Also horse racing is a popular sport as well.
- Horses are athletic creatures with four strong legs. They can gallop, trot or run.
- Domesticated horses live in special structures known as stables.
- Horses are herbivores and feed on grass , hay.
7.) Bird
- Ostrich is the biggest bird in the world and is unable to fly
- Birds make their own nest on tree branches to take shelter and lay eggs.
- Birds are not mammals . Their younger ones are hatched out of eggs laid by them
- We had a bird sanctuary close to our house. Different species of birds inhabited there.
- Peacock is the national bird of India.
8.) Deer
- Deers have been an important animal in Indian mythological stories such as Ramayana.
- India has several deer parks to preserve them from becoming extinct.
- Himalayan deers are known for their beautiful skin and horn
- Hunting deer is an illegal activity in India. Legal actions are taken against hunters
- In earlier days , deer’s meat was consumed.
9.) Pig
- Pig is a poultry animal that is in demand for its meat and fat .
- Pig meat is known as pork. A lot of people enjoy pork as a food.
- Wild pigs are known as boars and these are violent creatures with sharp front teeths
- Pigs are omnivorous mammals.
- Pigs usually spend their time playing in the mud and dirt.
10.) Duck
- A flock of ducks swam across the pond while we were sitting close to it.
- Ducks have webbed feet to help them swim in water.
- Donald the duck is a popular cartoon figure.
- Duck meat delicacies are popular in many asian countries
- It has been proven that ducks have waterproof feathers on their body.
11.) Frog
- In France, they make a delicious recipe with frog legs.
- Frogs are amphibians, they can live on both land and water.
- During my childhood , I read a story about the frog prince.
- Frogs lay their eggs in water , later these eggs develop in to tadpoles.
- It is believed that before its about to rain , the frogs start croaking
12.) Lion
- Lion is known as the king of the jungle due to its majestic appearance and great hunting skills.
- Only male lions have a mane around their head
- The lion king was an exceptional movie.
- Asiatic Lions can be found in India’s Gir National Park
- Lions are predators and are violent in nature
13.) Squirrel
- Squirrels love eating apricots and other nuts.
- Squirrels are tiny creatures and can easily climb up the trees
- My mother says spotting a squirrel is a good omen
- Squirrels with two stripes on their backs are the most common ones
- Yesterday, I saw a squirrel nibbling on a nut.
14.) Rabbit
- Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland was a very wise character
- Rabbits usually love having carrots
- I have not only seen white rabbits but also brown and black rabbits
- rabbits have a special feature, which are it’s front tooth that is used for nibbling
- rabbits are very good pets since they do not cause much trouble
15.) Dog
- Dogs are the most loyal domestic creatures
- I believe we should take care of stray dogs as well
- There are various breeds of dog, among them the Labrador are one of the most adorable ones
- I have recently watched a movie called Hatchiko, which was about a dog waiting for its master.
- it’s very unfortunate that some Asian countries feed on dog meat.
16.) Monkey
- It is believed that monkeys and humans have evolved from apes
- Monkeys are usually use their long tails but various activities, such as hanging from trees
- Monkeys usually feed on bananas and other fruits
- while me and my family word visiting a temple in Orissa, we had to come across a bunch of monkeys
- In Indian epics such as ramayana monkeys has been mentioned and personified as well.
17.) Snake
- Snakes are reptiles that glide with the help of their body on the ground.
- Most of the snakes are poisonous and have fangs That contained the venom
- I haven’t ever seen a snake charmer
- king cobra is believed to be the most poisonous snake
- the rattle snake makes a rattling noise while it moves, as a result the prey gets confused
18.) Sheep
- sheep are reared for their wool and meat
- the first poem that I learned in preschool was blah blah black sheep
- Cashmere wool is made from the hairs of a different variety of sheep.
- There used to be a cartoon named Shaun the sheep and it was very amusing
- The first animal that was subjected to cloning was in fact a sheep
- Male sheep have horns on their foreheads and are heavier then the female sheep.
19.) Giraffe
- The giraffe is the tallest animal in the world
- an average giraffe can reach up to the heights of but two to three storied building
- giraffe is a herbivorous animal and feeds on the leaves off tall trees
- luckily I got to see a mother and the daughter giraffe in the zoo
- it’s a rare sight to see a giraffe running
20.) Cow
- cow is an important domestic animal and is mostly used to produce milk
- foreign countries often use cow for its meat. Beef delicacies are quite famous in various parts of the world
- an average cow is supposed to have 4 intestines unlike humans
- an indigenous variety of cows originating from Australia is known to produce excellent quality milk
- cows are often bred for dairy farming?
