A Different Kind of School Summary Class 6 Chapter Five
The narrator had heard a lot of good things about Miss Beam and her school which was quite different from other ordinary schools and apply a new method of teaching. The main object or aim of the school was to make the students more thoughtful and responsible citizen. It also taught them understand the feelings and pain of disabled person and how to help them at the same.
Then the author went to the school garden which was beautifully maintained, that time he saw a poor young girl of 12 was led by a small boy of 8 who was describing her the things.
Then met middle aged and also dominating Miss Beam but at the same time Miss Beam was helpful and kind hearted. Miss beam tells him about this school that it not only teaches addition, subtraction but also thoughtfulness.
Looking out of the window he saw few children neither healthy nor active and some of them walking with crutches and having eyes bandage. He was so sad to saw all this.
Miss Beam explained that none of them is having any problem but they are playing the role as the part of their training, and also the school observed one blind, one deaf, one lame, and one dumb day. For every child in a team. So this activity make the children more concern and thoughtful. Other children were put on duty to help the needy.
On the blind day eyes are bandaged of one child and the other children had blind throughout the day, and this gave become a great learning for both the blind and their helpers.
At that last time a bandage girl had a walk with the author. The girl shared her feelings and learning with him and said the blind day was the most difficult and painful one. She asked several questions about the colour, places and things. The author tried his best to answer all questions.
He becomes ten time mores more thoughtful than ever. He was convinced that Miss Beam’s experiment was really new, wonderful and marvellous.
