Ans.-It Is classified into living & non-living matter. Living matter consist of plants & animals & Non-living matter consists of substances or materials.
(2) How many parts of Non-living substances?
Ans.- There are two parts of Non-living substances.
(3) Name of the Non-living substances?
Ans.- 1) Pure substances & 2) Impure substances
(4) How many parts of Pure substances?
Ans.- 1) Elements, 2) Compounds
(5) How many parts of Impure substances?
Ans.- 1) Mixtures
(6) What is Pure & impure substances?
Ans.- All pure substances have characteristic properties, such as Melting & boiling point, colour, etc. while impure substances have no Characteristic properties.
(7) What are Elements?
Ans.- An element is a pure substance that is made up of one kind of Atoms only. It cannot be converted or broken down into two or simpler Substances by on physical or chemical methods.
(8) What is Atom?
Ans.- An atom is the smallest particle of an element which may or
May not exist on its own.
Ex. Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen.
(9) Classification of Elements?
Ans.- Elements are classified into – Metals, Non-metals, Metalloids, & Noble gases.
(10) Define Metalloids?
Ans.- Elements that show properties of both, metals and non metals.
Ex.-Boron
(11) Properties of metals?
Ans.- (1) Hard Solids
2) Lustre or shine
3) Malleable – can be beaten into sheets.
(4) Ductile – can be drawn into wires.
(5) High melting & Boiling points.
(12) Noble or Inert gases?
Ans.- These are the elements that are Un-reactive, inert and do not
React chemically with other elements.
Ex.- Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon & Radon.
(13) Definition of Mixture?
Ans.- Is a combination of two or more substances. There are two Types of mixtures. The Homogeneous mixture and the Heterogeneous Mixture.
(14) What is Homogeneous mixture?
Ans.- Is a mixture that has the same proportions of its components
Throughout any given example.
Ex.- Shampoo, baby powder, cold drinks, vinegar, alcohol etc.
(15) What is Heterogeneous Mixture?
Ans.- Are not uniform and they will not have an identical composition.
