Before rain fall begins, everyone must have experienced large sounds, strong winds, and sudden disturbances in the weather conditions which scare everyone with its violent appearance followed by the lighting and heavy rain fall. This sound followed by lighting is termed as thunderstorms. But the question arises here that, why the nature acquires this violent condition? Let’s discuss this in detail.
We know that the ocean water gets heated continuously and vaporised. There in convection between warm air and cool air takes place which makes warm air cooler and condensation start processing.
Condensation means the conversion of water vapours into water droplets again due to decrease in temperature of the vapours due to atmospheric heat exchange. Due to this condensation, in tropical areas the winds carries water droplets in upward direction, but the lower temperature conditions at higher altitudes freezes them again and falls down again. This process is very fast and furious such that the falling drops collides with the wind which is going upwards, which forms lighting and sound combine and thunderstorms are formed. Such thunderstorm may be very hazardous as very high voltage electric energy is carried which can burn trees, animals, and can damage our electric appliances as well. Therefore it is instructed that during lighting we should not plug in electric appliances, mobile charger, should not use land line phones so that we can avoid the damage and losses too.
The thunderstorms can be very hazardous when converted in to cyclones. We will learn in detail about cyclones in next article.
