The Trees Poem Class 10 Extra Questions and Answers English First Flight
Summary
The poem has a symbolic significance. Poems are all about perspective. It might deal with more things than you can imagine!
In this poem, the poet might have stressed the declining relationship between humans and nature. The poet might also symbolize the trees as women.
In the first stanza, the poet states that the trees are moving out of the forest, and the birds have nowhere to sit. The insects have no place to hide. But, according to the poet, the forest that was empty for so many days will be filled with trees again.
The poet here might have been talking about deforestation and its impact. But, she also states that nature finds its way. Even if the trees are cut off, they will slowly grow again.
In the second stanza, the poet states that the roots work to disengage from the cracked floor. The leaves of the trees strain towards the glass to grab the sunlight. The plants look like clinical patients, half alive.
By keeping the trees inside their houses, the people deny them freedom. Trees grow much healthier when they are given enough space. In cramped spaces, its growth is somehow stopped. This is why the trees and plants turn towards the glass in search of fresh air and sunlight. This makes the trees look like patients and not fresh.
In the next stanza, the poet states that she writes long letters, but she does not mention the forest’s departure from the house. This might suggest that she doesn’t want to talk about the dead trees in her garden because of the clamped and clustered space. On the other hand, she talks about the outside world that is nice and fresh.
The last stanza again states the poet’s imagination. She wonders and feels that the trees want to break their chains and be free from the shackles of the room. They want to stay in the direction of the sunlight and the direction of the wind.
The poet imagines and feels that if the trees had grown in the forest, they would have been like the tallest oak. It is so tall that it feels like the moon is broken, and its pieces flash in the branches of the trees.
Throughout the poem, the trees can also be looked at from a different perspective. The trees can symbolize women who are stuck in their houses. It might refer to those women who know that they can grow but have been clamped at homes. They want to break free and shine like the tallest oak tree, but their roots have been ingrained in their homes. It does not let them go out even if they are desperate for it.
