The Panther Summary Class 10 Chapter Two Poem by Rainer Maria Rilke
POEM: THE PANTHER
SUMMARY
The poem “The Panther,” written by “Rainer Maria Rilke,” is about a panther in a captive state and craves freedom and how it sees the world through the caged bars.
Stanza 1-
The panther constantly sees out of his cage with solid bars, and his gaze has now gone weary as it has been captive for too long now. It seems that there are so many bars behind which it is held, and there is no life or world behind those bars.
Stanza 2-
A panther is an animal that usually takes mighty strides when it walks, but now its mighty strides are restricted to small circles inside the cage where it is not free to move or roam as per its wish. The poet refers to its circular movements as a ritual dance around the center, which is sad and seems to have paralyzed its normal movement.
