Telanagana State Board Class 9 Biology Chapter 2 Plant Tissues Solution:
Q1. Define the terms:
Tissue- Group of cells which are nearly similar in structure and perform similar functions is called as tissue.
Meristematic tissue- Tissues that bring all over growth and repair are called as meristematic tissue.
Dermal tissue- Tissues that form outer coverings are called as dermal tissue.
Q2. Differentiate between the following:
1) Meristematic tissue and ground tissue
Meristematic tissue |
Ground tissue |
Tissues that bring about all over growth are called meristametic tissue. |
Tissues that form bulk plant body are called as ground tissue. |
Cells are small and have thin cell wall. |
The cells are in bulk form. |
Cells are compactly arranged. |
Cells are arranged in bulk form. |
2.) Apical meristem and lateral meristem
Apical meristem |
Lateral meristem |
Tissues which grow at the tip are called as apical meristem. |
Tissues that are present at the edges are called as lateral meristem. |
These meristem helps in growing the length. |
These meristem give rise in growth at girth of stem. |
3.) Parenchyama and collenchyma
Parenchyama |
collenchyma |
Parenchyma cells are soft and thin walled. |
Collenchyama tissue are thick walled. |
Parenchyma cells are loosely packed. |
Collenchyma cells are longer in size. |
4.) Schlerenchyma and parenchyama
Schlerenchyma |
parenchyama |
The cells of schlerenchyma are thick walled. |
The cells of parenchyma are soft and thin walled. |
These cells are tightly packed. |
These cells are loosely packed. |
5.) Xylem and phloem
Xylem |
phloem |
The tissues that appear red colour are xylem. |
The cells adjacent to the xylem are called as phloem. |
It plays an important role in transportation of materials from root. |
It plays an important role in transportation of food material from other parts to plant. |
Xylem contains elongated tracheids cells. |
Phloem contains long sieve cells. |
Q3. Name the following:
1.) Growing tissue ,which causes growth in length of plant – Apical meristem.
2.) Growing tissue, which causes growth in girth of plant- Lateral meristem.
3.) Large air cavities in the acquatic plants – Arenchyama.
4.) Food material in parenchyma- water.
5.) Pores essential for gaseous exchange and transpiration- stomata and root hair.
Q4. Compare the following:
- Xylem and phloem :- Xylem and phloem are vascular bundles. Both play important role in transportation. Xylem transports materials like water and salt from roots and phloem transports food materials to plant.
- Meristematic tissue and dermal tissue :- Meristematic tissue and dermal tissue have equal importance in the cell. Compare to meristematic tissue the dermal tissue has thick walled cells.
Q5. Justify the following:-
- Xylem is a conductive tissue – Xylem are the tissue which appear red in colour. Xylem tissue plays an important role in transportation ofmaterial like salt and water to the roots hence it is a conductive tissue.
- Epidermis gives protection – Epidermis is the outer layer of cell which gives protection for the cell. It protects the plants from loss of water and mechanical damage.
Q6. Though Chlorenchyma, Arenchyma and storage tissues are parenchymatous in nature. Why do they have different (specific) names?
Ans- Chloremchyma, arenchyma and storage tissues are parenchymatous in nature because they have different functions and play different roles in parenchyama tissue.
Q7. Describe the functions :-
- Meristem- Meristem gives rise to growth in the girth of stem. Meristem gives rise to growing in the length of plant.
- Xylem and phloem- Xylem and phloem give mechanical support to the plant. Xylem and phloem helps in transportation of materials which helps during photosynthesis.
Q8. If you want to know more about tissues in plants what questions would you ask?
Ans- The questions which I would ask: How many types of tissues have been introduced or studied?
Why only parenchyamatous tissue has different types?
Q11. Draw and label the diagram of T.S of stem.
Q12. While observing internal parts of plant how do you feel about its structure and function?
Ans- Plants are like the source of food to humans and any living organism. Plants help us in many ways by giving oxygen , fruits etc. The internal parts of plant when we observe there are many structures in it and each structure functions are different to the plant in different way. When I observe the structure I notice many layers are present it’s quite difficult to imagine the layers in plant. There are many functions also of the structures inside the plant.
Super and this is very helpful this ink
