Speech on Hindi Divas in English
Respected Principal Sir/Madam, teachers and dear fellow students. Before this beautiful day I have been given a lucky chance to address you all. In my full effort and power I intend to say a few words regarding my topic- “Hindi Divas”.
India is diverse, a united nation but diverse in a million aspects. Indian population is rich in many religions, and all live in harmony among themselves. India also boasts of having many languages, hundreds in number, and these languages are older than the country itself. Some say the basis of every language is Sanskrit and an even more ancient language existed a time in ancient past through which sprang all the other existing languages.

India is truly fascinating in terms of both people and culture. All of these languages are an important part of society’s culture but the oldest and most spoken language in India is Hindi, this language has been the important life line for this country many times. People always communicated in Hindi and recognized it as a powerful tool to suppress the British Empire. Back when there was no India only Hindustan and Bharat, Hindi was spoken by majority as a major means of communication. Every year 14th September is celebrated as Hindi divas on the occasion when constituent assembly of India declared Hindi as state language and in 26 January 1950 Hindi was declared as language of official use too. On this day we celebrate the greatness of this language called Hindi. The importance of this language in our country’s culture and history is significant. It doesn’t matter that we speak English or Chinese or any language, every language is good and we must respect
every culture but Indian people must not forget their roots and where they are from, their language was Hindi and it shaped this nation in multitude of ways. This day unites the people of India every year under this great language Hindi. The importance of Hindi in the culture of India is immense; this language has been a safe haven for many freedom fighters and a way of subtle communication among themselves in the fight for freedom of its people. Schools, colleges and universities must unite and educate today’s children about this language more, even though English is widespread today, we must never forget who we are and to where we belong. India’s history is rich in culture and we have suffered a great deal to achieve what we have today. The generations of today must be educated about the history of this country and how we can contribute more to making this country better, in year 1918 Mahatma Gandhi suggested in Hindi literature summit to appoint Hindi as official state language; he also said Hindi is universal language of the people in India. The impact of this great language and its propagation is not possible if we choose not to use it, we must use this language without hesitation, people often treat Hindi with less respect than English and many times English is propagated as more superior language than Hindi. Many times English is regarded the language of the learned and literate and it is used to evaluate how literate a person is. This vague and stupid notion is offensive and disturbing, as to how British left this country years ago but English never left its command over Indians.
