Speech on Cricket
INTRODUCTION
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Today I am standing in front of you all to deliver a speech on cricket. A sport played, worshipped and looked upon.
BODY
Cricket originated in South East England during late 16th century. The father of cricket was William Gilbert Grace. It spread globally in 18th century. It is a bat-ball game played between two teams each of 11 players. Cricket is governed by international cricket council (ICC). It has 105 members out of which twelve members are cricket players who have played test matches. It’s headquarters is in Dubai (UAE). The rules and regulations of the game is regulated by Marylebone cricket club(MCC). Now, more than a hundred countries play cricket such as India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, West indies, New Zealand, Ghana, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Singapore & Afghanistan. The first cricket tournament officially played was test match which took place between 15 to 29 March 1887 between England and Australia at Melbourne cricket ground. The equipment required in cricket is two sets of wickets with bails, bat, ball, spiked shoes, cricket helmet, arm guard, chest guard, elbow guard and pads to protect knees. The cricket field is oval with rectangular field in middle of 20.12m long and 10m wide. They are three different types of pitches green pitch, dusty pitch(Sri Lanka) and dead pitch(India). The people involved on cricket are players- keeper, fielder, bowler and batsman. The umpire decide whether the player is out or not out.
In India, cricket started in in 1751 by British Empire. The first cricket club was established in 1792 by the Calcutta cricket club. The first captain of Indian cricket team was Colonel CK Naidu. Team India is governed by the Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI). India had played many test matches, one day international ODI and T20I matches in which they had won two World Cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev and in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni . They have also won ICC World Cup T20I in 2007 and 2013 and Asia Cup seven times. Cricket is the national sport of Australia. The current captain of Indian team is Virat Kohli and the head coach is Ravi Shastri. At that time only men played cricket but from 19thcentury women’shavestarted to play cricket and form team at national level such as Indian women’s National Cricket Team. The captain of women Indian team is Mithali Raj (test ODI) and Harmanpreet Kaur of (T20I) and the coach for Indian women National Cricket Team is Ramesh Powar. The first women ODI was played in 1973 between England and Australia. The Indian women team plays their first one day international in 1978. Many Indian films have been made on cricket such as Lagaan in 2001 made by director Asutosh Gaurikar, Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii in 2007 by Kittusaluga, Meerabai not out in 2008 by Chandrakant Kulkarni, victory in 2009 by Ajit Pal Mangat, Dil Bole Hadippa in 2009 by Anurag Singh and many more.
CONCLUSION
This tell us that Indian societies have interest on cricket. Cricket has always been an enthusiastic talk of town in India and we love to talk about it and see matches. From worshipping the god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar to playing on roads, Indians love to play. At the end I want to say that playing any sport keeps us fit, cricket is making our youth healthy.
