Answer: Tsunami is series of enormous ocean waves formed due to earthquakes, underwater landslides, volcanic eruptions or asteroids. The speed of such waves is 700 to 800 km/hour. And these waves could be 10 meters to 30 meters high. These waves can affect in the form of flooding, disrupts transportation, power, communications and water supply.

Responding Tsunami

In the response of Tsunami it is necessary to take following steps.

i) Find out home, school, workplace or any other frequently visiting locations along with the sea-shore.

ii) Plan evacuation path from the place you are.

iii) For weather updates and warnings use weather radio or stay tuned to local radio or TV.

iv) To aware everyone discusses about tsunami, it will give an idea about the situation and dos and don’ts hence everyone will be aware of the situation and can help each other.

What to do after Tsunami

i) After Tsunami keep tuning weather radio and be updated.

ii) Try to medicate yourself if injured and also help other injured or trapped people.

iii) In the condition of rescue people call professionals with the right equipment to help.

iv) Provide special attention to infants, elderly people, those without transportation, large families who may need additional help in an emergency situation. People with disabilities and the people who care for them also need to consider.

v) Stay away from the building in which water remained, it could sink the building.

vi) Pay attention to the gas leaks, if you smell gas or hear a blowing or hissing noise open the window and get everyone out quickly.
