2) Write a note on sex determination in humans?
Ans. humans have two sex chromosomes, named X and Y. A female always has two X
chromosomes, while a male always has one X and one Y chromosome in him. The gametes (egg or/ and sperm) have only one set of the chromosomes. The unfertilized egg always has one out of two X chromosome. But, human sperms are of two kinds as one kind of sperm contains one X chromosome, and the other kind of sperm contain one Y chromosome.
When a sperm having X chromosome in it fertilises the egg, then the zygote would have two X chromosomes, developing into a female child. If the sperm contributes a Y set of
chromosome to the egg (ovum) at the time of fertilisation, the zygote would develop have a set of X chromosome and a set of Y chromosome, developing into a male child.
In this way, the determination of sex occurs in humans.
