(I) Write down the answers of the following questions in approximately 1-15 words:
(1) How does agriculture affect human settlement?
Ans: The places where it is easy to cultivate crops and to transport agricultural products to other places attract human settlement. Generally big cities, metropolitans and cosmopolitans are developed along the plain areas.
(2) Where did people live, first of all?
Ans: People used to live on the places where he could fulfill his day to day needs easily like along the river valley.
(3) How does a topography of a place affect the development of human settlement of a place?
Ans: The area with plain topography always act as a great facility of habitation. In the rugged topography, there are less number of settlement because of the lack of transport and communication. It is difficult to cultivate crops in these areas and so the big cities, metropolitans develop near the plain areas.
(4) How are roadways important?
Ans: Roadways are important means of communication or transportation, it is easier and cheaper to construct roads then to lay railway lines.
(II) Write down the answers of the following questions in approximately 50-60 words:
(1) Write down the importance of railways while explaining them.
Ans: Railways can carry a large quantity of good and passengers at an afford able cost over a large distant places. The railway networks is not only on the surface of the earth but it has been developed underground also known as metros and subway railway services. In Europe and North America, railway network is widely spread. High speed rails have been manufactured in Japan and France like – the bullet train of Japan runs at a speed of 500 km/hour.
(2) Write about the important waterways/ocean routes of the world.
Ans: The important waterways of the world are as follows:
(i) North – Atlantic Ocean waterways: This waterway connects Western Europe with United States of America & Canada.
(ii) The pacific – Ocean Waterways: This waterway connects North and South America with Asia and Australia.
(iii) Cape-waterways: This waterway was discovered by Vascodagama in 1948 and it connects European countries and America with southern Asia, Australia and Newzealand.
(iv) Suez-Canal waterways: It connects Mediterranean Sea with Red Sea and European countries with southern Asia, Australia and West Africa.
(v) Kanama Canal: This canal has been constructed in Panama Republic and connects the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
(3) Write about the internal waterways?
Ans: The large water-ways in the form of river acts as an internal waterways of a region. The Ganga – Brahmaputra River and lakes of Kerala in India works as an internal waterways of the country. These waterways can also connect one country to other like – Denno River of Europe connects the middle and southern Europe to the black sea.
(4) World has become a Global Village with the development of Airways, illustrate the fact with example.
Ans: The Aeroplane was invented by Wright Brothers in 1903 in the form of flying machine. Nowadays almost all the countries of the world are connected through airways. Thus, world has become a “Global village”. Travelling through aeroplane saves a plenty of time. There are largest airports all over the world like – London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai etc.
(5) Which are the means of communication, what is the advantage of their development?
Ans: The means of communication are telephone, email, messages, cyber networks etc. For example – through internet we can connect from one country to another sitting at one corner of the world. Besides these, postal services, telegram, telephone, mobile phone, Radio, magazine, newspapers etc are also means of communication. The advantage of their development is that through a simple message from a country it can be conveyed to many people and country all over the world at a time.
(6) Write in detail about Suez Canal.
Ans: The Suez Canal connects Mediterranean Sea and red sea. This waterway connects the European countries with the countries of the southern Asia, Australia and West Africa.
