There are two main legends about the Konark Temple. According to one legend Sibei Samantaray was the minister of king Langula Narasingh Deb. He wasin-charge oflaying the foundation of the Konark Temple. Whatever stones were thrown to the sea all were washed away by the sea. The minister was in deep trouble. In thistroubled state of mind, he went to visit Ma Mangala of Kakatpur with the hope of getting her blessings. On the way Maa Mangala met him in a disguise of an old woman. She gave her advice. Sibei worked the advice of Maa Mangala. He became very successful in laying the foundation of the Temple. In fact, the advice Maa Mangala was useful for Sibei.
