My Shadow Summary Class 5 Chapter Three Poem by Robert Louis Stevenson
The poem ‘My shadow’ is a beautiful piece by Robert Louis Stevenson in which he describes a child curiosity about his own shadow. In the first few lines of the poem the poet describes the shadow which goes everywhere with the little boy. The little boy finds resemblance between him and the shadow from head to toe. He even mentions that the shadow jumps in the bed before he can. The poem very beautifully describes each and every phase and movement of the shadow. The little boy notices a important and unusual thing about the shadow. The shadow grows very unusually not like normal kids. It grows tall at times and sometimes becomes tiny and snout. This fact exits the boy a lot. He draws comparison between the shadow to a Indian rubber ball which instantly bounces and becomes tall. The poet in the last few lines draws our attention to a beautiful morning when the sun was about to rise. The leaves and the surroundings grass were full of dew. As the sun was rising there was not enough light and the boy could not notice his shadow for the first time. He then concludes by saying that his shadow must be a coward or very lazy that it did not get up in the morning and still sleeping. The poem very beautifully describes the innocence of children and their fascination towards unknown and new things yet to be discovered.
