(a) What are the main climatic characteristics of the Mediterranean region ?
Ans- Mediterranean Forests or regions are found in areas around the Mediterranean Sea and California in U.S.A. that experiences wet winter and dry summer.
(b) Why do trees in the Taiga have needle-shaped leaves ?
Ans – The trees of Taiga region have needle-shaped leaves to reduce transpiration.
(c) In which region are the Safaris practised ?
Ans – Safaris are practiced in region of Tropical grasslands popularly known as Elephant grass .
2.) Answer the following questions in about 30 words each :
(a) Why is there thick growth of vegetation in the Tropical Evergreen forests?
Ans- Tropical Evergreen Forests are found in equatorial regions. These areas are hot and receive abundant rainfall throughout the year.
The trees are tall and remain green throughout the year. There is a thick undergrowth of plants and creepers.
(b) Where do we find cold deserts of the world?
Ans- Cold Deserts are found in Tundra regions in the extreme northern parts of Europe, Asia and North America.
(c) What do you mean by ‘elephant grass’ ?
Ans- Tropical grasslands occur on both sides of the equatorial region. The grass is 3 to 4 metres tall and is known as ‘elephant grass’.
There are trees interspersed in the grass. The region is popular for safaris (trips to see wild animals.
(d) Why does Keibul Lamjao National Park is famous in the world?
Ans- The Keibul Lamjao National Park of Bishnupur District, Manipur is a national park. It has an area of 40 km2 (15.4 sq mi) and the only floating park in the world, located in North East India, and an integral part of Loktak Lake.
