1.) Answer the following questions in one word or a sentence:
a) Name the Ahom king who married a Manipuri princess .
Ans- The Ahom king who married a Manipuri princess was Rajeshwara Singh ( 1751-1769).
b) By what name was the Kacharis known to the Manipuris ?
Ans- The Kacharis were known to the Manipuris by the name Mayan Thongnang.
c) Why did the Kachari king Satrudaman take the name of Pratap Narayan ?
Ans- The Kachari king Satrudaman took the name of Pratap Narayan because in 1606, he was able to defeat the Ahoms and to commemorate this victory, Satrudaman took the title of Pratap Narayan and changed the name of the capital as Kirtipur.

a) What was the factors for the decline of the Ahoms ?
Ans- The factors for the decline of the Ahoms are as follows:
i) defects in the administration system.
ii) weak military system and Moamaria Rebellion.
iii) Burmese invasion and the British invasion .
iv) The Ahom kingdom began to decline with the accession of Gaurinath as the king of Ahom in 1780.
b) What was the contribution of Kyamba in the growth of the Manipuri kingdom ?
Ans- The contribution of Kyamba in the growth of the Manipuri kingdom are as follows:
i) Kyamba repulsed the Mayangs who invaded Manipur from the west in 1504.
ii) In 1470 AD, Thangwai Ningthouba and Khekkomba, the king of Pong jointly invaded the Kyang kingdom in the Kabaw valley and was victorious. After this victory, he took the new name of Kyamba, conqueror of Kyang.
iii) Besides Kyamba, many of his successors also contributed to the growth of the Manipuri kingdom. Among them, king Kabomba ( 1524-1542) had defeated the Takhels and dug a canal in commemoration of the victory.
c) How did the Manipuri Muslims become part of the Manipuri society ?
Ans- Some Muslim merceneries were hired to invade Manipur. Once again the combined forces of the Kachari king and the muslims was defeated. The Muslim war captives were made to settle in Manipur and came to be known as Meitei Pangals. Khagemba even established a separate department to look after the welfare of the Muslims.
d) How did Khagemba try to bring about an efficient administration?
Ans- i) For efficient administration of the state, Khagemba set up many Loishangs (Departments).
ii) State granaries were built at different places.
iii) He also established a number of markets at various places of his kingdom to facilitate trade and commerce.
iv) Agriculture was also encouraged. The ‘Taothabi’, a variety of paddy which can be cultivated in swampy areas was introduced.
v) For irrigation, canals were dug and river beds were cleaned for preventing floods.
