(a) What is environment ?
Ans- Environment means the surroundings, i.e., place, people, nature and things of an organism.
(b) What are the different types of environment?
Ans – Environment is of two types, i.e., natural environment and human environment.
(c) What is biodiversity ?
Ans – The variety of life forms–plants, animals and micro organisms is known as biodiversity.
2.) Answer the questions in about 30 words each :
(a) Define the major spheres of natural environment ?
Ans – The major spheres of natural environment are – Lithosphere , Atmosphere, Hydrosphere , Biosphere.
Lithosphere is the outer layer of the earth consisting of a variety of rocks.
Atmosphere is the air-envelope that surrounds the earth.
Hydrosphere is the part of the earth’s surface, covered by water. Rivers, lakes, seas and oceans form this sphere.
Biosphere is the zone of the earth where life exists.
(b) Why should we stop the environmental damage ?
Ans- . With the advancement of science and technology our activities now pose a serious threat to the environment. Human activities like agriculture, industry, transport, road and building construction, etc. have adversely affected the natural environment in a number of ways. The environmental degradation is affecting the survival of human race. It is high time now to initiate steps to stop this environmental damage.
(c) Why are the oceans important for us ?
Ans- Rivers, lakes, seas and oceans forms the hydrosphere. Water is a very important resource for the living organisms. Oceans modify land temperature. They provide us with food and minerals and hence is very important for survival of human beings on the Earth.
(d) How do the human activities pose a threat to the natural environment ?
Ans -Human beings are an important part of the biosphere. But they are capable of influencing and changing the natural environment. With the advancement of science and technology our activities now pose a serious threat to the environment. Human activities like agriculture, industry, transport, road and building construction, etc. have adversely affected the natural environment in a number of ways.
