1.) Fill in the blanks to complete the statements.
Ans:
a) While working with computer we can read the information stored in its memory and perform other actions in its internal
b) While presenting the pictures and videos about the works of scientists, we can use
c) To draw graphs based in the quantitative information obtained in an experiment, one uses Microsoft Excel.
d) The first generation computer used to shut down because of use of large valves which consumed lot of electricity.
e) A computer will not work unless electric power is supplied to it.
2.) Answer the following questions.
a) Explain the role and importance of information Communication in science and technology.
Ans:
Following are the role and importance of information Communication in science and technology:
- By using internet we can search any information and it is available on Google and it can be shared through emails also.
- Using simulation and animation some if the science experiments are done effectively such as functioning of nervous system.
- We can run various program software on computer in which new research prototype are build up.
- It helps to scientists to collect information from space.
- It has also developed the information broadcasting related to agriculture in the remote areas to increase the farmers productivity in their farming.
- By studying meteor we can predict and forecast weather conditions.
- Such type of field works and many more are possible due to the information Communication in science and technology.
b) Which application software in computer system did you find while studying science and how?
Ans:
While studying science we requires most of the application software which are running in computer.
Microsoft PowerPoint:
- For the presentation of some concepts we can use Microsoft PowerPoint through which can represent information, pictures, audio and video also due to which we get the exact knowledge of that topic and can be understood easily.
Microsoft Excel:
- While solving the problems of physics and maths also sometimes we want to draw graphs so we can directly draw graphs using Microsoft Excel by putting quantitative information.
Calculator:
- Mainly doing calculations on calculator on computer is also the advantage to the student studying science.
Microsoft word:
- While preparing notes or something creative or poster on science we can also use the Microsoft word.
c) How does a computer work?
Ans:
The main parts of the computer and their functions are explained as below:
CPU:
- CPU is the Central Processing Unit and it acts as the brain and heart of the computer.
- The smaller components located in CPU are hard disk, RAM, motherboard etc.
- CPU controls the working of all computer parts like keyboard and mouse and it also process & stores the data. CPU is also called as the system unit.
- The main three components of CPU are explained as below.
1) Storage unit:
- It store the information and when other components need the the information it supply them.
- Random access memory is the main part of storage unit.
2) Control unit:
- Control unit does not perform any processing and only controls the working of all parts of the computer.
3) ALU:
- ALU is the arithmetic logic unit which performs arithmetic calculations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and also logical operations in the computer:
- RAM: It is the random access memory which is temporary and we can read it only when computer is on.
- ROM: It is read only memory which is permanent memory and we can’t make changes in it.
While the operating system acts as the interface for communication between the person and the computer.
Complete computer system consists of some input devices and output devices also.
Input devices:
- Input devices are those through which we can give information to the computer. Like keyboard, mouse, scanner are the input devices through which we provide information to the computer.
- Using keyboard we can type the information and by using mouse we can point the options and select them.
Output devices:
- The output devices are those which displays the information given by computer.
- Like monitor is the main output of the computer.
- Printer is also the output device.
d) What precautions should we have taken while using various software on computer?
Ans:
- While using various software on computer we should have to take following precautions:
- When we are installing the software we have to check whether the site is authenticated or not.
- We have to use only one software at a time otherwise running many software in background may slows down the speed of computer.
- To avoid data hacking we must have to installed antivirus protection in computer.
- While using any software we have to use it according to the rules and regulations only otherwise it may harm to the computer.
e) Which are the various devices used in information Communication? How they are used in the context of science?
Ans:
- The devices used in information Communication are computer, laptops, radio’s, mobiles, television which provides us every information related to any thing.
- Some devices are used in the field of science for various purposes which are discussed below.
In medical field:
- Computer also helps in surgery. The analogue computer are used to track the heartbeat, blood pressure etc.
- Supercomputer are used for whether forecasting.
- Also it provides information from the space to the research scientists.
- It enables the broadcasting of information related to agriculture to the farmers living in the remote areas.
- Without information Communication Technology the filed of science and medical are empty and hence it plays a very important role in all the fields of science.
3.) Explain the difference between the different generations of computer. How did science contribute to this development?
Ans:
- The old generations of computer are big in hardware due to which we can use it only at one place. During the development of generations of computer some computers are developed which are easy to handle. Now we can use them by using our hands directly due to the development in hardware and also the software development.
- We are using now the fifth generation of computer. Following are the computer generations and their development.
- In 1946-1959 fist computer is established which is based on the vacuum tube technology.
- These are UNIVAC and ENIAC.
- In 1959-1965 second generation of computer was developed which is based on the transistors and not used mostly.
- In 1965-1971 the third generation of computer was developed which is also based on ICs and not used mostly.
- In 1971-1980 the fourth generation of computer was developed which is based on the microprocessor which includes microcomputers.
- In 1980 to till we are using the fifth generation of computer which is under process and based in robot and artificial intelligence.
4.) What devices will you use to share the knowledge to others that you have?
Ans:
The devices I used to share the knowledge that I have are computer, laptops, mobile phones, radio’s, television.
5.) Which technical difficulties you face while using the computer? What did you do to overcome them?
Ans:
The mostly we face difficulties on computer are as follows.
- While using many applications in background our computer becomes slows down. Then we have to check either the hard drive is full or many applications are running in the background so we have to close them.
- When we connect WiFi networks to the computer mostly it doesn’t work properly then we have to check whether our device is in the range or not.
- If we are facing constantly security warning while browsing the data then we have to check the clock of computer it it doesn’t correct then we have to correct it.
- When computer is restarting continuously then we have to update the windows or some mechanical problem due to which computer may get hot. Sometimes due to the dust get accumulated inside the computer we have to clean it to work with computer properly and securely.
