Therefore, both collagen and calcium combines together in order to strengthen the bones. For this reason, bones are strong and non- flexible.

a.) What are the functions of your skin?
The skin constituents an essential and enormous organ of every living organisms. The skin consists of hair. The skin provides us the sensibility of touch. The skin represents an essential sensory organ of the body. Epidermis and dermis are the two main layers of human skin.
The essential functions of the skin are as follows:
i.) The skin protects the internal organs of the body, as for example, muscles, bones and organ systems.
ii.) Helps in preserving the moisture content within the body.
iii.) Plays an important role in synthesizing vitamin ‘D’ .
iv.) Releases sweat in order to control the temperature of the body.
v.) The skin plays an important role in protecting our body from the negative impact of heat and cold.
vi.) The skin acts as the sensibility of touch.
b.) What should you do to keep your bones strong and healthy?
In order to keep our bones strong and healthy, it is necessary to consume foods that contains rich source of vitamin D. Milk ,fish ,eggs and butter are some of the foods that contains good source of vitamin D. Milk and milk products are the greatest source of calcium content ,as calcium represents an essential constituent of bones. The sun is an important source of vitamin D, so enough exposure to sunlight can help in absorbing the required amount of vitamin D, which is a vital nutrient for the body. Regular exercise is also important in keeping our bones in a healthy condition.
c.) What are the functions of the human skeletal system?
All the bones in our body are of varying shapes. Each bone is distinct. All the bones in a united manner constitutes a framework or skeleton. All the bones of the body together with cartilage represents the skeletal system. The axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton are the two main types of skeletal system.
The important functions of the human skeletal system are as follows:
i) The skeletal system provides a specific shape to the body.
ii) The skeletal system renders support and provides protection to the sensitive parts within the body.
iii) Gives attachment points, which enables the muscles to execute their movements at the joints.
d.) Which are the various reasons due to which our bones might break?
The structural component of the bones are hard and non- flexible. The weak and fragile bones are often subjected to breakage.
The various reasons which might lead to breakage of bones are as follows :
i) One may suffer from osteoporosis due to the deficiency of calcium content.This is one of the primary reason which might result in fracturing of bones
ii) Excessive smoking and alcohol consumption can bring about a detrimental effect on our bones.
iii) Our bone density diminishes with an increase in age ,which may result in weakening of bones.
iv) Certain injury can also lead to breaking of bones.
e.) What are the different types of bones? How many types are there?
There are mainly four types of bones in our body:
- Flat bones
- Small bones
- Irregular bones
- Long bones
- Flat bones refers to a narrow shaped bones that renders mechanical support to the delicate parts that are surrounded by the flat bone.
- Irregular bones possesses a complex structure that could not be categorized as long, short or flat
- Long bones as the name indicates, refers to a type of bones that are quite longer and their main task is to render support to the body weight and accelerate movement.
- Short bones refer to those type of bones, whose length and width are almost the same. The main function of short bones is to promote support and stability with very less movement.
6.) What will happen if-?
a.) There are no joints in our body.
Joints refers to the areas where two or more than two bones are linked to one another. Movable joint and immovable joint are the two main types of joints. Joints allow several types of movements which we perform, for the purpose of attaining our needs. If there are no joints in our body, then our body will become rigid as a result of which it would be difficult for us to execute our daily activities.
b.) There is no melanin pigment in our skin.
Melanin is a natural pigment that is present in skin as well as in hair. Melanin gives colour to our skin and the fairness or darkness of our skin is determined by the proportion of melanin pigment. Melanin plays an important role in protecting our skin and the internal organs from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. So, if there is no melanin pigment in our skin, then all human beings will have similar skin complexion and we will become more prone to the harmful ultraviolet rays which will pose a damaging effect to our skin.
c.) Instead of 33 vertebrate in our body, we had one single and straight bone.
The spine refers to the primary support structure of our body. It enables us to keep ourselves erect and links various parts of our skeletal system to one another. They facilitates the movement of our spine, which enables us to lean it smoothly, so that we can execute several other activities. So, if there is only one single and straight bone instead of 33 vertebrate then we will fail to retain our flexibility and at the same time we will stay in rigid position. It is because of the separately linked vertebrate, we are capable of executing various movements like walking, sitting, bending and moving. So, if there is only one constant bone then it would not be possible for us to execute any of these movements.
