1.) Write the answers to the following questions in your own words.

a.) What are the differences between plants and animals?

Plants

Animals

Plants consists of chlorophyll, which enables them to produce their food by themselves. Animals does not possess the ability to produce their own food.
Plants does not have the ability to move from one place to another place. Animals possess the ability to move from one place to another place.
Plans are composed of numerous cells and various structures which are different from that of animals. Animals does not require cell walls, so as a result of which they do not have rigid cell walls.
Plants does not have the primary ability to sense, because they lack sensory organs. Animals have well developed sensory organs.

b.) What are the similarities between plants and animals?

Besides certain differences, plants and animals also portrays  various similarities.In order to survive, both plants and animals require enzymes. They possess certain systems in order to convert and utilize their energy.Both plants and animals depicts important processes ,as for instance, developmental process, reproduction, respiratory process and excretion.There is requirement of energy for both plants and animals, in order to execute several functions.

c.) How is the plant kingdom useful to us?

Plants in a similar manner like animals ,absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and releases oxygen.All living things requires oxygen, which is essential for their survival .So, plants play a significant role to our survival .They are the chief components of oxygen in the atmosphere and performs an essential function in maintaining the levels of carbon dioxide .Plants also contributes in averting soil erosion  and aids in protecting the soil.There are usages of plants both for the household as well as for the purpose of industrial products.The plant kingdom provides us plants that contains medicinal properties.

d.) How is the animal kingdom useful to us?

In several ways, animal kingdom are useful to us .The animal kingdom comprising of all categories of animals, as for instance ,dogs, cows, cats and buffaloes are domesticated for several purposes .Animal such as fish , sheep and fowl are used as a source of food. On the other hand, horses, oxen and camel are those animals which performs an essential function in executing various occupations. Earthworm plays an important role in carrying out agricultural activities.

e.) What makes living things different from non -living things?

Living things Non – living things
Living things have the ability to change their position from one place to another place. Non – living things does nothave the ability to change their position.
Living things need food, which is essential to acquire energy and execute their life processes. Non living things does not need food.
Living things undergoes the process  of reproduction. Non living things does not possess the capability to reproduce.
Human beings ,plants and animals falls under category of living things. Pen ,book and table falls under  the category of non -living things.

2 .) What helps them to breathe?

a.) A fish –  Fish breathe with the help of their gills.

b.) A snake – Snakes have nostrils, which is similar to that of humans. On land ,snakes breathe with the help of their lungs and in water  they breathe through their gills.

c.) A crane – Crane breathes through their nostrils.

d.) An earthworm – earthworms breathes with the help of their skin, when it is in a moist condition.

e.) Man – Man carries out their respiratory process through their nose.

f.) A banyan tree – banyan tree breathes with the help of their thick pores, on their leaves.

g.) A caterpillar – caterpillar breathes through their spiracles.

Animals – Uses

Honey bees  – Honeybees provides us with raw honey , which serves as an effective remedy for skin care treatment.

Sharks – sharks are used in medicines because it has the healing properties and can help to combat infections.

Yaks – yaks are used in order to obtain milk and milk products.

Sheep – sheep provides us with wool, which is essential for making woolen clothes.

Earthworms – earthworms perform an essential role in carrying out agricultural activities.

Dogs – dogs are used as domesticated pets, which protects our house by serving as a watch guard.

Bivalves – bivalves are used in craft work and also for the purpose of manufacturing Jewellery.

Horses – horses are used as a primary means of  transportation.

Mice – mice are mostly used in laboratories for executing research work.

Ginger – Ginger is used for treating various ailments because it contains medicinal properties.

Mango – mango is used as a fruit , which helps to boost the immunity power.

Eucalyptus – eucalyptus leaves have several benefits. It helps to relieve pain and fosters relaxation.

Babul – babul is used as a datum for the purpose of cleaning the teeth . Babul leaves also contains healing properties.

Teak – teak is primarily used for building boats.

Spinach – spinach leaves are mainly used for making medicines.

Aloe vera – Aloe vera contains those essential nutrients that helps to nourish the skin and makes it glowing and healthy.

Turmeric – turmeric is mainly used for treating skin disorders and it also helps to relieve pain and inflammation.

Holy basil – holy basil is mainly used for medicinal purposes because it helps to resist infections.

Karanja – Karanja is mainly used for treating various ailments.

Moh – moh is mainly used for the purpose of manufacturing soap and detergents.

Mulberry – mulberry contains rich source of iron and vitamin A which helps to reduce high cholesterol levels and blood sugar.

5.) What are the peculiarities of the movements of these living things?

The peculiarities of the movements of these living things are as follows:

  • Snakes – Snakes usually crawl.
  • tortoises –tortoise can swim as well as crawl.
  • kangaroos – kangaroos typically jumps.
  • eagles- eagles usually flies at a much higher altitude.
  • chameleons – chameleons mostly walk.
  • frogs – frogs can live both on land as well as in water. So ,on land they hops and in water they swims .
  • gulmohur –gulmohur mainly  grows towards the path of light.
  • sweet potato –sweet potato usually grows towards the path of gravitational force.
  • creeper – creeper mainly bends  with the help of a support.
  • dolphins – dolphins swims with the help of their fins.
  • ants –ants mainly walks .
  • rattlesnakes – rattlesnakes also crawls .
  • grasshoppers – grasshoppers jumps .
  • earthworms – earthworms moves with the help of their muscles. They usually crawls.

6.) Write in detail about how the plants and animals found in your surroundings prove useful or harmful.

In our surroundings, we find various kinds of plants and animals. These plants and animals can prove to be both beneficial or harmful to us.

Useful plants

There are  usages of plants both for the household as well as for making industrial products.As  for instance, fenugreek ,potato ,apple and banana are used as the source of food . However,vasaka, hirada ,behada and asparagus are used for medicinal purposes because it contains various medicinal properties.So,  these are the various plants which proves to be beneficial for us.

Harmful plants

Some plants can also prove to be harmful, as for instance, the dodder, parthenium and weeds. The  nettle seeds and colocasia  leaves give rise to itching.Plants such as oleander and lantana  possess extremely strong smells. The  datura plant falls under the category of poisonous plant. The  excessive growth of fungi and algae in water, makes the drinking water polluted, so as a result of which it may lead to rapid spread of diseases .Therefore, these are the various plants which portrays harmful consequences.

Useful animals

There are various animals which are quite beneficial for us. Dogs ,cats, cows and buffaloes are the domesticated animals that are mainly kept for the purpose of domestic uses . Fish ,sheep and fowl are mainly used as a source of food .Sheep gives us wool which is necessary for making woolen clothes.Horses, oxen and camel are those animals which proves to be quite effective for carrying out several occupations.The earthworm performs a crucial role in executing agricultural work.

Harmful animals

In our surroundings ,there are some plants and animals which are not useful to us. Diseases like malaria, typhoid , yellow fever and dengue are transmitted by mosquitoes. Cockroaches, mice and rats contaminates our food ,thus  causing rapid spread of infectious diseases. The bites of some poisonous lizards,spiders ,snakes and scorpions are extremely dangerous and can often lead to the death of that person. Wild animals can cause a great deal of destruction ,if they enter human settlements.
