a.) The silencer of a motorcycle is broken.
If the silencer of a motorcycle is broken, then we should instantly repair the silencer, in order to prevent noise pollution. Until the silencer is repaired or reinstalled, we should avoid driving such motorcycle because without silencer, the engine would produce extreme sound pollution, which might bring about an adverse impact on our health.
b.) A factory in the surroundings is producing continuous loud noise.
If factory in the surroundings is producing continuous loud noise, then we should immediately inform the factory officials about the problems that are being faced by the local residents due to the constant loud sound. The authorities of the factories shouldtake instant steps to repair the machines, which is actually producing this immense noise. If they are not giving any attention to this problem, then we should urgently lodge a complaint against the factory to the nearest police station regarding the constant emissions of loud sound, which have dangerous effect on public health.

a.) What is meant by vibration?
The back – and – forth motion of an object about its central point is termed as vibration. The vibration of an object is essential in order to produce sound. The sound is heard, as long as the object is in a vibrating mode . When the object stops vibrating, the sound also comes to a halt. Vibrating objects also possesses a definite speed.
b.) Explain with the help of practical examples how sound is propagated through solids.
When sound waves transmits in every directions from a source of sound, then sound is said to be propagated. Sound is propagated through the solids in the form of waves. Stethoscope is one of the perfect example of sound propagating through solids. As for instance, stethoscopes enables the doctors to hear our heartbeat. Similarly, if there is a knocking sound at the door, then it is easily heard by the person who is within the room. This clearly indicates that sound can travel easily through solids. So, this is another example of sound propagating through solid. Sound transmitsthrough different speeds in different mediums. Sound spreads very rapidly through a solid ,when compared to a liquid. Sound travels with greatest speeds through the medium of solid.
c.) What is meant by noise pollution?
A loud sound is disagreeable to the ear. Such sounds give rise to noise. Continuous loud sounds pose adverse effects on public health. Therefore, constant exposure to loud sound can affect the hearing ability of the people and can result in hearing impairment. Loud sound can also create impatience, restlessness and mental stress. One also faces difficulty in concentrating on their work. This type of constant noise which have harmful effects is known as noise pollution. When we hear several sounds that are detrimental to our ear, then it gives rise to noise pollution. The maximum noise pollution is caused by heavy traffic and industrial areas. Noise pollution also constitutes a social issue.
d.) What measures will you take to control noise pollution?
i.) We should avert blowing the horns, if it is not necessary.
ii.) The volume of TV or radio should be limited to only those persons who are watching it, without disturbing others in the house.
iii.) In order to reduce the unnecessary sounds of the vehicles, they should be subjected to proper maintenance.
iv.) Industries, airports , railway station and bus stands should not be located near the residential areas.
v.) In order to reduce noise pollution, it is extremely essential to regulate it’s source . Silencer must be placed in every vehicles, so that it can help in reducing the noise generated by the engine.
vi.) People should take effective steps of planting more trees, which will contribute in curbing noise pollution.
