c.) Availability: to choose a particular dress I will think about all the options first. Then I will take the most attractive and comfortable dress from all dresses.
d.) Fashion: I always keep in mind that my ways of dressing must be fashionable. I do not believe in following trends rather I focus on creating my own styles.
e.) Your wish/ whim: I always prefer choosing dress as per my own wish. I consider point of views of others but listen my own wish ultimately.
f.) A suggestion or advice by someone: though I often choose dresses of my own. But I take suggestions from my mother and sister whenever I feel confused about dresses. In fact, I ask them about my overall look after dressing up for assurance.
g.) Comfort: I focus on my comfort level with a significant kind of dress before choosing it. if I do not feel comfortable in a dress I will not wear it no matter how much fashionable it is.

a.) A simple dress makes one’s personality look dull. Disagree.
One’s personality reflects not only through dressing but also the person’s manners, body language, confidence, behaviour.
b.) We should not judge ourselves from the comments we receive from others. Agree
People may give different views as per their personal choices and interests. We must remember that all individuals are different and their choices may not match with others. If we find ourselves happy with our choices then there is no need to focus on others.
c.) A fashionable and costly dress makes you look rich, intelligent and beautiful. Disagree
Dress can create expensive and fashionable looks but it cannot prove if one is intelligent. We will understand intelligence of people through their overall personality, nature and behaviour.
d.) We should choose a dress according to the fashion rather than our choice. Disagree
We should consider both our choice and fashion together. If we do not like the fashion and feel uncomfortable with dress then it will be awkward appearance overall. We will not be happy and satisfied from within.
A1.) i.) Mabel waring dressed herself in an old fashioned yellow dress to attend Dalloway’s party. In the party she found herself dressing old-fashioned way which was not so charming comparing to others. She wanted to be the centre of attraction and get comments of admiration in favour of her dressing sense. But the opposite was happened and she got hurt more when her husband did not admire her. So, when she was looking at her through the looking glass of Dalloway’s drawing room she was thinking herself as a fly who is struggling at the edge of a saucer. It was a way of reducing the unbearable agony for her. She was remembering phrases to compare herself with others for lessening the agony which she was feeling herself in the party.
ii.) RoseShawexclaimed that Mabel was looking charming with satirical pucker on her lips.
Robert Haydon said something in polite and insincere way which Mabel found as lies.
Miss Milan suggested that the skirt could not well be longer which she found as honest remarks. She felt like full of pity in heart and wanted to cry at that moment.
Charles butt exclaimed that Mabel got a new dress just while Mabel wanted to hear that she was looking charming from him.
A2.) i.) rose Shaw dressed herself in the height of fashion precisely like everybody else.
For a party makes things either much more real or much less real which she thought in a flash to the bottom of Robert Haydon’s heart.
Miss Milan put the glass in her hand, she looked herself with the dress on and finished an extraordinary bliss shot through it.
Mabel said to Charles Burt “it’s so old fashioned” making him spot on his way to talk to someone else.
Mrs Holman was off thinking Mabel the most dried up, unsympathetic twig she had ever met, absurdly dressed.
Mabel waring left alone on the blue sofa punching the cushion in order to look occupied. She would not join Charles Burt and rose Shaw chattering like magpies.
ii.) a.) all were thinking what’s Mabel wearing? What a fright she looks! What a hideous new dress!- their eyelids flickering as they came up and then their lids shutting rather tight.
a.) Mabel felt like a dressmaker’s dummy standing there, for young people to stick pins into.
b.) Mabel saw herself like a fly but the others were dragonflies, butterflies, beautiful insects dancing, fluttering and skimming while she alone dragged herself up out of the saucer.
c.) “I feel like some dowdy, decrepit, horribly dingy old fly”, Mabel said to make Robert Haydon stop.
d.) Rose would have looked like Boadicea while she looked foolish and slouched across the room, positively slinking as if she were a beaten mongrel and looked at a picture an engraving.
iii.) Mabel has been old fashioned for not following fashion and trends so much. She lived in a family of ten members where earning was limited and they have to manage expenses in various ways for living. She faced domestic tragedy when sheep farm failed and his eldest brother petered out after getting married and lived in a seaside resort. She got married with Hubert with his permanent job and safe life. She had always looked after the needs of her husband and children and overlooked her own happiness. So, after crossing all the stages she realised the incompleteness in her mind. She does not have peace of mind. She used to find peach in books which made her following the things depicted in books. In this way, she became old-fashioned in his dressing styles and appearances.
iv.) In the critical stages of life Mabel followed others for living a safe and secured life with limited resources. In this process she cared for others needs and expectations more than her own. She did not follow her interests and did not fulfil her wishes. At the end of the day she found peach and happiness within books. Even she went to London library for finding different books as per their moods and needs. After coming the invitation of MrsDalloway’sMabel took an old Paris fashion book of her mother’s. She found women were much prettier, dignified and womanly then in the empire. She wanted to be unique in her appearance with much elegance in the dressing pattern which would be different from others. But at last she herself was not happy with it and made her mind miserable by comparing with others’ looks.
v.) Mabel had the tendency of deciding her own worth based on the comments of others. She needed assurance for feeling charming with her own looks. She dressed herself the way she wanted for attending Dalloway’s party in a unique way. But she wanted admiring comments from others presented at the party. When she failed in getting admiration she started questioning her looks. I do not appreciate that tendency at all which Mabel followed in this story for her confidence and satisfaction. One must be confident with one’s own looks and appearance at every place. If we depend on others for getting positive comments then we will never find ultimate satisfaction. We have to stop for seeking validation form others and focus more on building our self-esteem.

iii) Miss Milan is one of the important characters that are depicted in the story “the new dress” of Virginia Woolf. When Mabel waring was frustrated and sad about her appearance in the party she came to listen to her. Mabel tried many times to grab the attention of others by throwing remarks by her own. But they did not give much importance over it which made her more miserable with her dressing style. In that situation, MissMilancame forward and assured her with positive comments. She suggested about her dress which Mabel found honest. When she got Miss Milan by herself her heart filled with self-pity and Mabel became more emotional. In this way, we got to know about Miss Milan how she knows to handle situation. We all expect this kind of person in our lives who can uplift our mood just by positive remarks and suggestions.
iv) We wear clothes for various purposes not only just as basic needs. People can follow latest trends and stylings in their dressing. But only clothing is not enough to present a person as well-groomed. It does not matter how much expensive clothes we wear it will not reflect the beauty until we carry them confidently. It is our overall confidence and personality which enhance the appearance after dressing up with particular clothes. If a person wears a gorgeous dress but feel uncomfortable then the overall appearance will be dull. Even we can look smarter and elegant in simple dressing sense. So, we must enjoy our dressing pattern whenever we wear certain types of clothes for different occasions to make the appearance vibrant.
