(1) The age group and number of persons, who donated blood in a blood donation camp is given below. Draw a pie diagram from it.
Age group (Yrs) | 20 – 25 | 25 – 30 | 30 – 35 | 35 – 40 |
No. of persons | 80 | 60 | 35 | 25 |
Solution:
From the given table let us find the central angle as shown is following table.
Age group (Years) | No. of person | Measure of central angle |
20 – 25 | 80 | 30/26 × 360 = 144° |
25 – 30 | 60 | 60/200 × 360 = 108° |
30 – 35 | 35 | 85/200 × 360 = 63° |
35 – 40 | 25 | 25/200 × 360 = 45° |
Total | 200 | 360° |
Draw one radius and draw angle with a protector in the clock wise direction.
The above pie diagram represents the adjacent table.
(2) The marks obtained by a student in different subjects are shown. Draw a pie diagram showing the information.
Subject | English | Marathi | Science | Mathematics | Social Science | Hindi |
Marks | 50 | 70 | 80 | 90 | 60 | 50 |
Solution:
From the given table let us find the central angle as shown in the following table:
Subjects | Marks | Measure of Central angle |
English | 50 | 5/100 × 360 = 45° |
Marathi | 70 | 20/100 × 360 = 63° |
Science | 80 | 80/400 × 360 = 72° |
Mathematics | 90 | 90/400 × 360 = 81° |
Social Science | 60 | 60/400 × 360 = 54° |
Hindi | 50 | 50/400 × 360 = 45° |
Total | 400 | 360° |
The above pie diagram represented the adjacent table.
(3) In a tree plantation programme, the number of trees planted by students of different classes is given in the following table. Draw a pie diagram showing the information.
Standard | 5th | 6th | 7th | 8th | 9th | 10th |
No. of trees | 40 | 50 | 75 | 50 | 70 | 75 |
Solution:
From the given table we can make a table for the measurement of central to draw the pie diagram as follows:
Standard | No. of trees | Measurement of central angle |
5th | 40 | 40/360 × 360 = 40 |
6th | 50 | 50/360 × 360 = 50 |
7th | 75 | 75° |
8th | 50 | 50° |
9th | 70 | 70° |
10th | 75 | 75° |
Total | 360 | 360° |
The above pie diagram represents the adjacent table.
(4) The following table shows the percentages of demands for different fruits registered with a fruit vendor. Show the information by a pie diagram.
Fruits | Mango | Sweet lime | Apples | Cheeku | Oranges |
Percentages of demand | 30 | 15 | 25 | 20 | 10 |
Solution:
From the given table as measure the central angle to draw the pie diagram as follows:
Fruits | Percentage of demand | Measurement of central angle |
Mango | 30 | 30/100 × 360 = 108° |
Sweet lime | 15 | 15/100 × 360 = 54° |
Apples | 25 | 25/100 × 360 = 90° |
Cheeku | 20 | 20/100 × 360 = 72° |
Oranges | 10 | 10/100 × 360 = 36° |
Total | 100 | 360° |
The above pie diagram represents the adjacent table.
(5) The pie diagram in figure 6.13 shows the proportions of different workers in a town. Answer the following questions with its help.
(1) If the total workers is 10,000; how many of them are in the field of construction?
(2) How many workers are working in the administration?
(3) What is the percentage of workers in production?
Solution:
From the give pie diagram the following is stated.
Total numbers of worker’s = 10000
Central angle for construction = 72°
Central angle for totals = 72°
Central angle for production = 90°
Central angle for administration = 36°
Central angle for electricity = 18°
Central angle for agriculture = 24°
Central angle for food = 48°
(1) Number of people working in construction
= central angle for construction/360° × total no. of people
= 72°/360° × 10000 = 2000 people
(2) Total number of people working in admin.
= Central angle for admin/360° × total no. of people
= 36/360 × 1000 = 1000 people
(3) Total no. of people working in production
= Central angle for production/360° × total no. of people
= 90/360 × 10000 = 2500 people
∴ Percentage of people working in production
= 2500/1000 × 1000 = 25%
= [Total people in production/total people × 100]
(6) The annual investments of a family are shown in the adjacent pie diagram. Answer the following questions based on it.
(1) If the investment in shares is ₹2000/, find the total investment.
(2) How much amount is deposited in bank?
(3) How much more money is invested in immovable property than in mutual fund?
(4) How much amount is invested in post ?
Solution:
In the given pie diagram the following is stated:
Central angle for shares = 60°
Central angle for post = 30°
Central angle for deposits in bank = 90°
Central angle for Mutual fund = 60°
Central angle for immovable property = 120°
Total investment in shares = ₹2000
(1) Total investment in shares = central angle for shares/360° × total net investment
Or, 2000 = 60°/360° × total net investment.
Or, Total net investment = 360/60 × 2000
= ₹12000
(2) Amount deposited in bank
= central angle for bank/360° × Total investment
= 90/360 × 12000 = ₹3000
(3) Amount invested in mutual fund = Central angle for –/360° × total invested
= 60/360 × 12000 = ₹2000
(4) Amount invested in post = central angle for post/360° × total investment
= 30/360 × 10000
= ₹1000
