Practice Set 6.5
(1) Observe the following frequency polygon and write the answers of the questions below it.
(1) Which class has the maximum number of students?
(2) Write the classes having zero frequency.
(3) What is the class-mark of the class, having frequency of 50 students?
(4) Write the lower and upper class limits of the class whose class mark is 85.
(5) How many students are in the class 80-90?
Solution:
From the given frequency player we can conclude the following:
(1) The point (65,6) denotes class 60 – 70 and 60 no. of students which is the maximum frequency therefore, class 60 – 70 has maximum number of students.
(2) The Classes that has 0 frequency are 20 – 30 and 90 – 100.
(3) The point (55, 50) denotes class 50 – 60 which 50 no. of students therefore, class 50 – 60 has 50 no. of students.
(4) 80 – 90 denotes class mark 85. Therefore, 80 is the lower limit and 90 is the upper limit.
(5) The class mark of classes 80 – 90 is 85. The point (85, 15) denotes class 80 – 90. Therefore, class 80 – 90 has 15 number of students.
(2) Show the following data by a frequency polygon.
Electricity bill (₹) | 0 – 200 | 200 – 400 | 400 – 600 | 600 – 800 | 800 – 1000 |
Families | 240 | 300 | 450 | 350 | 160 |
Solution:
From the given table we can conclude that necessary polygon table,
Class (Electricity bill (₹) | 0 – 200 | 200 – 400 | 400 – 600 | 600 – 800 | 800 – 1000 |
Class Mark | 100 | 300 | 500 | 700 | 900 |
Frequency (Families) | 240 | 300 | 450 | 350 | 160 |
Coordinates | (100, 240) | (300, 300) | (500, 450) | (700, 350) | (900, 160) |
(3) The following table shows the classification of percentages of marks of students and the number of students. Draw a frequency polygon from the table.
Result (Percentage) | 30 – 40 | 40 – 50 | 50 – 60 | 60 – 70 | 70 – 80 | 80 – 90 | 90 – 100 |
No. of students | 7 | 33 | 45 | 65 | 47 | 18 | 5 |
Solution:
From the given table we can proper a polygon frequency table as follows:
Class (Result in percentage) | 30 – 40 | 40 – 50 | 50 – 60 | 60 – 70 | 70 – 80 | 80 – 90 | 90 – 100 |
Class mark | 35 | 45 | 55 | 65 | 75 | 85 | 95 |
Frequency (No. of students) | 7 | 33 | 45 | 65 | 47 | 18 | 5 |
Coordinates | (35, 7) | (45, 33) | (55, 45) | (65, 65) | (75, 47) | (85, 18) | (95, 5) |
