Subject: Need of making Indian Ocean a zone of Peace.
Respected Sir,
I would like to draw the attention of concerned authorities to the deteriorating condition of the Indian Ocean through the columns of your respected newspaper. We all know the strategic and economic importance of the Indian Ocean. It is the main channel between East and West. Countries in the Indian Ocean region are rich in natural and mineral resources, including fossil fuels. The time has come to declare the Indian Ocean a permanent peace zone. This area should be free of nuclear weapons. One of the reasons for not declaring the Indian Ocean as a zone of peace is the constant conflict between many countries. These and many other coastal states are paying lip service to the idea of a zone of peace. But it cannot be overstated that there is an urgent need for new and bold initiatives in this regard.
I request you to publish this issue for the betterment of our Indian Ocean security.
Yours truly,
Ram Rao
