Subject: Frightful threat of Dengue in Borough No-99
Respected Sir,
I am a resident of Haripada Dutta Lane in Tollygunge ward. We have been staying in this locality for last thirty years. I am writing this letter as an appeal to you to kindly look after the situation of increasing dengue cases in our locality. The disease had spread in such large magnitude that there are patients in almost every house of the locality. The condition may slowly take a shape of epidemic if immediate precautionary measures are not taken up.
The number of mosquitoes has increased in our locality in large quantity and their breeding areas are the drains and stagnant water on the roadside vats. The drains and garbage vats are not regularly cleaned. Moreover, the drains of our locality are not covered and there are no arrangements to cover the garbage vats also. The rain water, as a result, gets accumulated in all these places. The dengue mosquitoes, as we all know, flourish in areas near close to the human population mostly in urban areas. The stagnant water in the uncovered drains, opened vats and discarded waste plastic containers are helping the mosquitoes to breed in enormous quantity.
It would be a great assistance, if necessary, steps are taken immediately like cleaning of all the drains and covering them up so there is reduction in the habitats of the mosquito, all stagnant water cleaned and the garbage vats are regularly cleaned, mosquito repellants sprayed on regular intervals throughout the locality. The open grounds need to cleared and cleaned, fumigation of the locality on regular basis which would prevent breeding of insects and mosquitoes also. The people should also be made aware of their responsibilities. Community health check- ups where people are regularly inspected for any symptoms of malaria and dengue should be made. Announcements on the precautionary measures of fighting dengue should be done on regular basis. It will be of great advantage if the residents of the locality are also given instructions of how to stop from getting infected dengue. Pamphlets on precautionary measures like application of mosquito repellants, use of mosquito nets, putting nets on windows and doors, keeping the surrounding of their houses clean, wearing long pants and long sleeves to cover skin should be distributed.
Many residents who are already infected with dengue are not unfortunately, fully aware of the precautions to be taken for speedy recovery. Many of them are relying on only home-made remedies and resorting to self-medications. Thus, if some awareness programmes like guidance for visiting doctor, taking correct medicine and diet, being alert regarding the infectiousness of the disease can be organized by the authorities may help in saving many precious lives.
I thank you for your time and consideration hoping for prompt solution of the situation in our locality.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely
Ankush
