Answer: From the text we come to know that the boy is seriously ill and he is bedridden. The mother got emotionally when she saw that her son tried to wake up without any help.

Answer: For a moment, Smita had forgotten that her brother was very ill.

Answer: Smita was well aware of the truth that Anant, her brother was going to die. The word cancerhad hung in the air- her brother was dying of cancer.

Answer: Yes,I consider Anant as a talented boy. He was the best table-tennis player in his school and the fastest runner. He was learning to play the sitar and was already able to compose his own tunes to the astonishment of their guru.

a.) What were their ‘high hopes’?
Answer: They had high hopes in the miracles of modern science. They hoped that Anant would be cured at the hospital, and he would again walk and run and even take part in the forthcoming table-tennis tournament.
b.) Do you think their hopes would be fulfilled? Support your answer.
Answer: I think their hopes might be fulfilled. But when we see at the boy’s report, we cannot really hope that as even the doctors told that the boy had very few days left.
c.) Doctors said something to the parents. Were those words of hope or words of despair? (Para.6)
Answer: Take him home. Give him the things he likes, indulge him,’ and they knew then that the boy had not many days to live. But they did not voice their fears. They laughed and smiled and talked and surrounded Anant with whatever made him happy. These were the words of the doctors.
d.) ‘ They did not voice their fears.’ Who does the word ‘they’ stand for?

6.) ‘Suddenly a daring thought came to her’. Can you guess what thought Smita had?
Answer: The daring thought must be of taking her brother along with her to see the concert by making some arrangements.

Answer: Though the response was unusual for such big and famous artist, but since this case was special and sensitive the artists were sensitive enough to agree.

Answer: The neighbors couldn’t believe their eyes because they saw very the two very famous artists could come there. Since Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Allah Rakha were busy people, it was unbelievable for the neighbors to believe that they had come there.
8.) Read the last paragraph, which very effectively but briefly describes the end. Exchange your feelings with your partner.
Answer: The last paragraph shows both the beautiful and tragic sides of life. It was an amazing experience for the boy to listen to his favorites. He dream turned into reality. But it is heart-breaking to see that the boy left this world with his loved ones by his side.

Answer: Partially I like the ending for the boy’s wish was completed. But at the same time, I feel bad about the tragic end of the life of the boy. After the performances, the boy felt energetic and lived for more years than expected- This is how I would have liked the end to be.
