i.) Manuscripts are ancient books which were written by hand on palm leaf or on bark of a tree called birches found in the Himalayas.
ii.) The crops which were grown first were wheat and barley.
iii.) The earliest composition was Rig Veda which was composed in Sanskrit about 3500 years ago.
iv.) Early men worked as farmers, priests, craftsmen, artists etc.

iii.) Information about the past that historians collect from different inscriptions, manuscripts and archaeology is known as the ‘Source’. The sources help the historian to study about the past.

i.) The areas along the south of the Ganga were known as Magadha, now lying in the state of modern-day Bihar. The rulers of this state were powerful and constructed a large kingdom. The rivers provided good transportation system which helped trade to flourish. The soil was fertile which developed agriculture and made the kingdom prosperous. The kingdom had very strong natural defences like river and forests. Magadha had many deposits of minerals like iron ore .All these factors helped Magadha to become a strong kingdom.
ii.) a) Scripts – The scripts consist of letters or signs. The inscriptions were written in different scripts like the Brahmi language.
b) BC – All dates in history before the birth of Christ are counted backwards and are denoted by the letters BC (Before Christ)
