Full form of OSPF
- Full form of OSPF is Open Shortest Path First.
OSPF stands for Open Shortest Path First. It is a dynamic routing protocol which dynamically learns information of routes from different routers and also advertises this information to other OSPF routers so that it can transfer all the information to other OSPF routers.
It keeps track of all the network connections or network links and stores the state of information of them. It is also known as Link State Routing Protocol. It uses the most popular interior gateway Protocol (IGP). It works in a single Autonomous System (AS). And for communication it uses IP protocol type 89.
It uses the Link state algorithm or shortest path first algorithm for routing. This was developed by an expert named Dijkstra and that’s why is it also known as Dijkstra’s algorithm. It also supports variable length subnet mask (VLSM) and placed in the category of classless routing.
What are the OSPF metrics?
It finds lowest cost path to routes packets from one network to another network. Cost is configured to all the routers or links which can be automatically configured which is based on the bandwidth or users can set it manually.
What are the address used by OSPF to update the destination?
- OSPF uses two address to update the destination-
- 0.0.5 – It is sent to all the Shortest Path First (SPF) routers.
- 0.0.6 – It is sent to all the Designated Routers.
What are the tables that OSPF maintain?
OPSF maintains three tables-
- Neighbor Table
- Database Table
- Routing information Table
