Full form of FBI: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a federal law enforcement agency in the United States. It was established in 1908 as the Bureau of Investigation and has since been renamed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI is part of the U.S. Department of Justice and its headquarters are located in Washington, D.C. The FBI’s primary responsibilities include investigating crimes against the United States, including terrorism, espionage, cybercrime, and other high-profile cases; protecting civil rights; enforcing federal laws; and providing leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies .It is also responsible for conducting background investigations of prospective federal employees and contractors, including investigating public corruption and corporate fraud., and for conducting external investigations, such as audits of the financial statements of the United States Government Accountability Office, Inspectors General of federal agencies and other government entities.

The Bureau has over 33,000 employees and operates over 400 field offices with local police and law enforcement agencies. In 2016, 628 cases were opened by the FBI involving terrorism-related offenses. These included 452 cases of “terrorism” as well as 104 cases of “terrorism-adjacent crimes.” The “terrorism” cases involved the use or attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, violent crimes, and murders.
