CMM stands for Capability Maturity Model. It can be defined as an organization for software development. It has levels which defines how strong is the software development in an organization. The levels to these organizations are provided by Software Engineering Institute (SEI) which is located in USA. It was developed in 1987.
What are the levels of CMM?
There are Five levels in CMM-
- Level 1 – Initial
- Level 2 – Repeatable
- Level 3 – Defined
- Level 4 – Managed (Capable)
- Level 5 – Optimizing
Level 1 – The starting point of any company comes under level 1. They develop softwares in an unmanaged way and their process are not documented either.
Level 2 – In this the process is well documented but they can’t achieve goals at one try they have to repeat it again and again.
Level 3 – In this all the process is well defined well documented and confirmed and follow business standard.
Level 4 – In this the process is well managed and everything is defined and have to sign certain agreements who ever develop these softwares.
Level 5 – in this the process management is of the highest level and the management takes care of everything and make changes to improve and optimize the process.
